"Media offline" but not in original mp4 (solved)

PostMon Jun 05, 2023 7:21 am

Dear Forum,

I imported a *.mp4 and I found one tiny area where DaVinci says "media offline". The original mp4 does not have this. What do I have to do?

(I do not have the opportunity to get the un-compressed file anymore. I have to work with this *.mp4 container).

Thank you.

This can happen if there are corrupt frames in the file.

Try encoding it to a different codec first with something like Media Encoder oder Avidemux before importing into Resolve. Safest option would be an image sequence like DPX, you can then re-encode this to a video file again.

In Avidemux you can also see if there are issues with the p and i frames, which might be the case here.

Thank you Sven.
I downloaded Avidemux and there are no such corrupt frames in it like shown in DaVinci.
Should I anyway export it from here?

Could you help me a bit how to re-create your "safest option"? A search did not pull out clarifying results to me.

What if you transcode the H.264 to a simpler format, like DNxHR SQ, outside of Resolve, then brought in the transcoded file? Then, you might be able to repair the corrupted frames as needed, either using still frames or the other tools within Resolve.

Thank you for your help, that was the solution.

I used the Trial of ffworks, converted into ProRes (DNxHD changed the framerate and I couldn't find out how to use ffworks to not to do that). No errors anymore. Rendering completed.

Also here I tried to use Super Scale 2x on the ProRes and immediately after pressing "ok" in the clip attributes dialog DaVinci crashes. Still looking for ideas how to fix that.

Use Shutter Encoder (donationware) to transcode if you find ffmpeg too complicated.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
