Video bug only on Davinci Resolve

PostTue Jun 06, 2023 8:25 am

Hello everyone !

First of all, I'm new at video editing so if I missed something obvious I'm sorry for that.

A lot of my videos have this weird colour bug only on Davinci, while some other videos taken in the exact same condition runs perfectly on the same project. I tried with an other computer, same result.

Videos taken in .mov H.265 Main 10 L5.1, 25fps 4k.

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong ?

Are you using the Free version of Resolve? If so and your video files are 10bit this is what you will see, as the Free version is limited to 8bit. You can either update to the Studio version of Resolve, or transcode using either Handbrake or Shutter Encoder.

If the camera offers it, you could go for H.265 in 8 bit or for H.264.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Try Studio version or try to convert the files into ProRes or DNxHD/HR using ffmpeg or shutter encoder. Problems should go away.

Though not many have reported it here.. there's an issue with either MacOS13.4 (update) or Resolve 18.x with H.265. I have a very similar issue as do 1 or 2 others I've seen, only appears with H.265!

Even with Studio? I'm so glad that I stayed with Monterey. I don't see such an issue here.

Thank you everyone for your quick replies!
I'm actually using the free version on Windows.
I thought this version supported 10 bits, I'm a bit disappointed and not sure if I should buy Studio or use 8 bits only. For today I worked on 8 bits and it's working well.

If you have the time and space, just transcode with one of the free tools.
10 bit may work in 4:2:0, if your camera has that option.

Main 10, as she mentioned, is 10-bit 4:2:0.

OK, so it's transcoding or Studio.
Interestingly, 422 is called "Format Range" by Invisor or MediaInfo, while DR in the Deliver page is calling both "Main", only adding 4:2:2. In the metadata screenshot there's no indication of the chroma subsampling.

“Main 10” can be 8 to 10 bit.
