Bug: Text+ / TimeCode drifts at 30fps. Davinci 18.1.4

PostThu Jun 08, 2023 2:53 pm

Hi,

In the latest version of Davinci (18.1.4 at the time of writing this) if you have a 30fps timeline and use a Text+ component to output the TimeCode it will drift ~2.5s per hour out of sync with the timeline. It looks like this has been an issue for quite a while because it was reported in 2020 v16.3 (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=126597)

The same steps to reproduce the issue applies today:

  • Create 30fps timeline
  • Add Text+ Title
  • Stretch it to exactly 1 hour
  • Set the text to TimeCode
  • Observe that, at the end of the text rather than the expected 00:59:59:29 it's actually 01:00:02:18.

Just wondering if anyone knows a workaround for this and/or if the bug is likely to be fixed in a future version? If I run the timeline at 24fps/29.97fps/60fps it works as expected but I specifically require 30fps for this project.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is this a Drop Frame issue, maybe?
