DVCPRO50 PAL

PostThu Jun 08, 2023 8:12 pm

Hi folks,
I'm trying to start a project with a lot DVCPRO50 PAL footage it's 20 years old.
But resolve(18 studio) won't import it, is there something I'm doing wrong?
Is there someone who can help me?
Thanks Core

Are you trying to capture the footage off the tapes (now) or are you trying to import footage captured 20 years ago? I have a similar project in the queue but with NTSC DVCPRO tapes. I've been wondering if I could capture with my Sony DSR-20 deck via firewire as I did 20 years ago or if I'd need to capture the S-Video output from the deck. I tend to keep some legacy hardware around LOL

This may be helpful for the hardware capture: https://www.recordingbase.com/firewire- ... olt-usb-c/

20 years ago I would have captured the video as QuickTime with Final Cut Pro.

I don't have enough information to try and troubleshoot your problem. I am assuming PAL vs NTSC is not the issue here. I may be able to find a legacy hard disk with 20 year old captures to test -- but I'd like to know we are testing apples to apples (PAL vs NTSC to the side), vs apple to oranges.

If it is an issue with old captures maybe they need to be transcoded. I remember 20 years ago having to often transcode captures.

And maybe someone else with more recent experience will chime in!

Good luck!

I think there was a trick to make it readable, but my old brain has deleted that (FIFO principle).
Please post a short clip to a cloud service and I'll try.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

you can use wetransfer.com or a dropbox link or a google drive link (just make sure you allow everyone to see the file)

1): It works in Studio. You do need an extension to the filename (I chose to add .mov ) by renaming it.
(Edit: And for funsies i also tested in the free version: Works there too with the extension to the filename)

2) mediainfo for reference:

Yep, that was the trick: name it .mov and call it a day!

And then, use the neural deinterlacer, if your machine is not too slow.
