Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is on Sale.

PostTue Jul 18, 2023 2:26 pm

Hi.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is on Sale.
16GB is good, but it's still hobbled by the 128-bit interface.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidi ... es-on-sale

But if you will consider a AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT 16GB with 256-bit interface to $600, soon to be previus generation, is it a stronger graphics card.

The 12GB 3060 has dropped below $300! :)

Hi.

Here is a link to the first rumors, of the new AMD midrange GPU cards with 12/16GB.

'AMD Rumored To Launch Radeon RX 7800 XT & RX 7700 XT GPUs In Late Q3'

https://wccftech.com/amd-rumored-to-lau ... n-late-q3/

And AMD Radeon GPU cards don't have GPU memory full problems.

I'm brand-agnostic but I've not had an "out of memory" error with my 3060, although it does get up to abouit 11.5GB of VRAM used at time with 4K timelines and any temporal noise reduction in effect.

My biggest concern with AMD cards would be the stability of their drivers -- at least of late. It strikes me that the vast majority of GPU-related problems reported on this forum involve AMD cards rather than NVIDIA ones.

I just hope Intel get their next generation GPU out soon and that it's a viable option to both NVIDIA and AMD.

The more competition the better IMHO.

Hi.

I also remenber old posts with AMD driver problems, in the middle of af Resolve project.

But I think it is easy to solve. Just make sure there is no Windows automatic driver updates on your PC. Many AMD users have driver problems when Windows Update suddenly update during a project. You can solve it by disabling your internet connection.

If you need both Internet and Resolve on the same PC, you can use dual boot with two separate hard disk partitions with two Windows installations. During boot you do choose between a normal PC without Resolve or a Resolve ONLY PC with network drivers and Windows update disabled.

This way there will be no sudden change to your tested and working AMD graphics drivers, used by Resolve.

What makes you claim this? This is getting repeated several times whenever amd cards are talked about by the same people and I've yet to see people claiming this come up with any sort of proof.

If we take the top 3 pages on the forum, all the issues people have with Resolve, be it performance or any other issues are almost all with nvidia gpu or even macs.

Where are all these vast majority AMD gpu related posts?

Go to the nvidia reddit and see the plethora of driver issues, or do you think nvidia doesn't have any errors or driver stability? Because reality contradicts you.

They all (AMD, nVidia, macOS/Apple Silicon) have driver issues from time to time. We all saw the recent AMD issue with the memory leak (that was resolved with a driver downgrade at the time). nVidia is a crap shoot - often the latest driver is not the best. With Apple, you don't get as much freedom but we've definitely seen issues with Ventura 13.4.x and encoding...

Of course they all have driver issues. There's a difference between accepting everything has issues and the vast majority are amd issues which is demonstrably false. Too much hyperbole.

I interested in it. I hope someone reviews Fusion performance directly.

I hope so too, I'm coming from a 3060 so I would like to know if it's worth upgrading. Some early reviews indicate that the 4060 Ti 16Gb now beats the 3070 is a lot of games. But I want to know how it handles productively

At the current price point for the 16GB 4060Ti I'd hang on to your money. The performance increase will not be significant (over a 3060) and IMHO you'd be better hanging on to your money. perhaps even until the 5000 series cards appear.

The consensus amongst most reviewers is that the 4060, in any configuration, is not a great-value option right now.

So, if you find the 3060 isn't fast enough then you'll likely be disappointed with the 4060 and better advised to perhaps find a second hand 3070 or 3080 which may well give you more bang for your buck.

Hi.

MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Ventus with 16 GB vRam, got a price drop of €30 in Europe, from its launch MSRP:

That was my suspicion as well.

We get more CUDA cores in the 4060, which is good. But a smaller memory bus, which is bad. (I really wish nVidia would stabilize this. Higher model numbers should always have the same or better specs across the board than lower model numbers.)

The 16 GB 4060 is 40% more expensive than the 12 GB 3060. Would it offer 40% more performance?

I'm skeptical.

Hi.

Here are process node size, FP32 (float) TFLOPS and launch price of tre nVidea graphics cards.

RTX 3060 12GB:
Samsung Process Size 8 nm
FP32 (float) 12.74 TFLOPS
$329

The coming RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB:
TSMC Process Size 5 nm
FP32 (float) 19.47 TFLOPS
$499

RTX 4070 12 GB:
Process Size 5 nm
FP32 (float) 29.15 TFLOPS
$599

Resolve do all its Image processing in RGB fp32. So a good way to estemate its performane, is to look at the FP32 (float) TFLOPS.
I can't se any improvement pr $ with the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, but I see an another option for a Resolve Graphics card.

And the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB will be more energy efficient than the the RTX 3060 12GB, due to its change from the old Samsung 8 nm process node, which actually is just an improved 10 nm process node.

But let's wait for some Resolve benchmarks.

Regards Carsten.

Yes, TFLOPS don't tell the whole story -- especially if you're bus-bandwidth-limited
