Applying a timeline xml to a multicam clip

PostWed Aug 30, 2023 6:55 am

Hello,

I am running into an issue while editing a multi cam video with Davinci Resolve 8.5. I have created a multicam clip with three videos from three different angles. They are aligned.

I used the main cam video to create a timeline file (xml) with all the cuts and edits using Descript. When import the timeline xml into my Resolve project, it creates a new timeline with the main cam video cuts/edits, but I can’t get Resolve to apply the timeline to the multicam clip instead.

I've tried all sorts of things but for the life of me can't figure out how to apply the timeline cuts/edits (there are 66 segments so redoing it by hand would be close to impossible). I am sure it's something simple like copy/pasting the right way but have run out of things to try.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do that?

Emmanuel

Right click the new timeline in the media pool > Convert to Multicam Clip.

Alternatively, create a new multicam clip with a dummy selection, copy clips from the imported timeline, paste into the new multicam clip.

Just an update on how I solved this.

I used Gling AI to redo the edits and exported the "Resolve multicam XML" which accounts for multiple cameras through the multicam clip. Worked like a charm!

Hello Emmanuel

You had the exact issue I have stumbled upon today - except I'm using Premiere pro.

Is gling.ai the only workaround? It feels like this shouldn't be so complicated!

thanks :)

Would you mind providing a bit more detail on how you did that?

I'm using Gling AI as well and I don't know how to do this method. I can't seem to add cam B in Gling, and when I export using the "Resolve multicam XML" option and then import into Resolve, I don't know how to apply the Gling edits for Cam A to Cam B
