18.6 Audio Issues

PostSun Sep 17, 2023 4:13 pm

Since upgrade to 18.6 from 18.5 some clips don't play audio before touching the clip handles.

Also I got Edit page out of sync from fairlight page:

Audio is playing in the Edit page on the time when there is no audio clips at all - I was so confused until I went to fairlight page and saw that things are different there

I'm having the same issues. I had them in previous versions but were short and they were fixed when I restarted the software but now they are unbearable. I'm taking 3x the time to edit a video

Is this on a macOS or Windows system?

Please outline your system configuration.

It's MacBook Pro M1 Max

Update:
After Restarting Davinci audio clips in Fairlight shifted back to reflect what's in the Edit page

However since many versions Davinci is causing soooo many audio issues for me. For e.g. crackling clicking sounds when I have nested timelines that have audio effects inside, but that seems to be another issue unrelated to the previously reported.

Which audio device is enabled as the default in Audio MIDI Setup?
macOS Applications folder > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

Instead of using a “System Settings”, select the device manually. Deselect the “Automatic speaker configuration” and select channels directly.

Any improvement in behaviour?

There is bug in Linux audio too, but of a different kind. Resolve don't decode AAC audio in MP4 files again... I try BRAW video too, and all is OK.

Absolutely identical glitch. After restarting the project, everything falls into place. Returned to the old version. everything is OK.

I'm experiencing audio issues as well with my MacBook Pro M1 on DaVinci Resolve after updating to 18.6. Almost all of my audio clips either play in random spots from their original timeline, or not at all. The music is also completely distorted.

Experiencing glitchy audio too after updating to 18.6 on Win 11. Just a simple V&A timeline using braw footage and mp3 audio. The audio stutters during fade in, only fix so far is to restart Resolve where it behaves normally.

After upgrading 18.5 to 18.6 on a Mac Studio M1 w/32GB of RAM running OS X 12.6.7, I'm having two audio issues:
1) The audio clips in my sequences all referencing a segment later than the actual in and out points.
2) Each audio clip is playing in the sequence earlier than where it's actually placed in the sequence.

It's as if the EDL containing the in and out points has been shifted - and this is the same sequence that when last saved in 18.5, was fine. If I drag an audio clip to another track, it forces an update, and the correct waveform appears, but the bug itself continues to keep happening elsewhere.

Estoy teniendo los mismos problemas con esta versión. Y problemas generalizados en la interfaz que se nota mucho más lenta incluso moviendo imágenes en posición, escala, etc. Vuelvo a la 18.5 hasta que haya algún cambio significativo.

Re: 18.6 Audio Issues

I have the same issue on Windows 10.
The most of the time happens only to one or two clip while I am working on them. I found that any modification to the audio track is going to solve the issue. For example, I apply a transition (and suddenly press "undo") and the audio gets back to normal.
Sometimes seems that the glitch affects all the clip, so I close and re-open the project to solve the problem.

As far that the issue is huuuuge, I hope a fix will come out soon...
For now I am able to keep working using these workaround while waiting for the fix...

PAY ATTENTION: the issue also affects the delivery section: if you render a project while the problem is affecting it, the exported file will keep the issues within.
To avoid this, I quit DaVinci and reopen it without applying ANY change just before the delivery...

Cheers!

Same here, just upgraded, restarted, changed audio input ... nothing ... super glitchy ... downgrading and hoping it restores it to how it was before because it's impossible to edit.

Same problem here.

As soon as i start cutting video, some clips have no audio for a few seconds?
I am downgrading too.
Editing is taking so long i am behind schedule!

Update.
downgraded to Studio 18.5 and problem went away.
I will try again with next upgrade and skip 18.6

Same issue here on OSX Monterey. Downgrading as this bug makes the software unusable.

it plays tracks that dont exist. And the CTI does not sync up well with what's coming out of the speakers.

Also, seeing the identical issue on a completely different workstation on our network with very different hardware but the same OS.

I have experienced audio sync issues on a 1280x720 AVC video with AAC stereo audio in an MP4 container on DRS 18.6 on Window 11. There was significant problems with audio sync in terms of minutes. No other video editor or video play exhibited any problems with the video (Media Player, VLC, Vegas Pro 20, Hit Films).

After downgrading back to 18.5.1, there were no problems.

Just stay out of 18.6
This version is unusable!
Downgrading to 18.5.1 should solve the problem.

After updating to Davinci Resolve 18.6.0 from 18.5.1 most video projects with multiple audio tracks and projects that were just Fairlight (no video), all with a mix of VST3 audio plugins, wouldn't play correctly - crackling audio, DR crashing, etc. I sent in the automated crash reports.

This is on Windows 11 Pro, Version 22H2, OS build 22621.2283, AMD Ryzen 3960X CPU, 128GB RAM, NVidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. RodeCaster DUO with its ASIO drivers.

As some problems seemed to be related to VSTs, I deleted the VST3Configuration.xml in
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences\Fairlight\Effects and restarted DR. Audio started playing correctly again and (fingers crossed) I haven't had a crash yet. If I get another crash I'll be rolling back to 18.5.

One issue that is still ongoing started immediately after installing 18.6. Normally if you left-click the speaker icon on the right side of the Windows taskbar, it will pop up a menu that lets you change the volume. One the right side of that volume bar is a ">" that usually shows an icon for your current audio output device. Clicking the ">" changes it to a "Sound Output" menu that lets you change your current output device. Since updating DR, no device is shown by the ">" and clicking it brings up an empty menu that doesn't show any audio output devices.

I can go to the Windows Settings or Control Panel and change the default output device from there, but this makes me think that 18.6 may have mucked up something with Windows audio management. (I did have SonarWorks SoundID Reference drivers running so thought they could be part of the problem, but still saw same issues after a reboot with all SoundID drivers and services completely off/disabled.)

Can confirm that this is still an issue and makes the software unusable, had to downgrade to 18.5.1 and everything works like a charm again, the software feels faster overall again.

I have upgraded to 18.6.2 but still having problems with audio timing on MP4, H.264, Main L3.2, ACC, 1280x720, 30 FPS. The video is the download of a Facebook recording of a video live stream.

The audio is ahead of the video by about 5 minutes. If I unlink the clips and offset the audio to retime with the video, it appears the time difference is not linear, and it later goes out of sync.

I noted the same problem on 18.6 and fell back to 18.5. The issue did not exist in 18.5 but has been pretty consistent for me in 18.6.x.

Players (Media Player, VLC, MPV, Windows Media Player, FFPlay) and other video editors don't have this issue with the video.

I used FFMPEG to repackage the video in an MOV container (vcodec/acodec copy), but it still displayed the same problem.

Then, I used FFMPEG to reencode the video (vcodec libx264 profile:v main) into a MOV container. When adding the video to my project, the audio and video were in sync for the re-encoded video.

Hi there,
i have many issues since updated from 18.5 to 18.6
At first i updated when i got the prompt that a new version (18.6) is available for update.
Immediately i had many glitches to the sounds, many clips where completely muted and many clips did not played synchronised according the waveforms.
I downgraded to 18.5.1 and i had zero issues.
Today i downloaded the 18.6.2 studio version and the problems with sound started once more. I noticed that i when i opened a project in Davinci, the first time i play a track everything is normal, the second time i start to hear glitches and the third some parts become muted. This happened every single time.
I downgraded to 18.5.1 with zero issues.
Could you please fix these issues because i need the 18.6 version due to Apple Log.
Here are the specs of my system:
Mac Studio M1 Ultra 64GB Ram
Mac OS Ventura 13.3
Davinci Resolve Studio (not free version)

Please inform me in case you need any additional to track the issue.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you!

I updated to 18.6.3 and still have the same with sound.
Sound stops playing, it sounds like is not synchronised and many glitches.... its a nightmare
Is there any fix on the way?
Went back to 18.5.1 that works without any issues
I want to use the apple LOG and it is not included in the 18.5.1
Please fix it

Solved for me by fixing the frame rate mismatch between the timeline framerate and the playback frame rate in Project Settings

I just checked.
For me it is the same.
Playback and timeline have the same framerate.
The "weird" thing is that i do not have any issue with any previous version (18.5, 18.4 etc).
Is there any other solution?

Running the latest Resolve 18.6 and also having lag/crackling issues on certain timelines. Not every clip or timeline is effected but the problem wasn't there in 18.5. Seems to be most pronounced when timelines have multi frame rate clips to deal with.

Will roll back DaVinci and update on how it goes

*UPDATE*

Rolled back to 18.5.1 and the audio issue still remains so now I have no idea what's going on.........

I think multi frame rates are too much for most machines in this respect.
I'd consider first rendering them all to the same speed in a good mezzanine codec.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I am convinced now that this upgrading to 18.6 is the root cause of the problems I am having with my audio. I was over ambitious in upgrading from 18.5 and ever since it's been downhill with timeline and audio syncing issues.. sometimes I find some clips having subjects sounding like monsters, or clips playing with no sound or audio sounding off in places where no one is talking. It's a right mess!!! I've searched every but hardly ever finding anyone with a once-and-for-all solution ... I have features in 18.6 that I want - voice isolation features etc :(

What I can tell you for sure:
  • Most of us are using the latest build and having few or no big issues.
  • They do fix big issues if/when they manage to reproduce them.
  • If you’re in the middle of a time-sensitive project it’s not a good idea to upgrade. But if you have the time and can chat and try to make a reproducible test case we will manage to get you going again.
