I searched the Blackmagic Forum but didn't see anything for this particular issue. I am running Windows 11 Pro on a Minisforum UM690.
DaVinci Resolve works fine with no issues, until I click on another program that uses audio -- YouTube, Media Player, Amazon Music, etc. When I switch context back to DaVinci, there is no sound. I can click a YouTube video, let it run for 5 secs, switch back to DaVinci, and the sound will no longer work. The meters are jumping, but there is no sound output. If I close DaVinci and reopen it, sound output works normally. This behavior is consistent with the last several versions of DaVinci, with no deviation.
It seems there is a prioritization issue at hand, so I gave Resolve.exe a higher priority in the OS, but it didn't work. In Davinci's Audio I/O Preferences, I have also used every combination of "Use system settings", "Automatic speaker configuration", and manually specifying the output device, with no resolution. The I/O Engine is System Audio.
On the Windows side, I have tried all of the different combinations of Exclusive Mode settings for the output device properties. Again, here I was thinking it was a priority thing, but this didn't work either. It may exist, but I don't see a way to set specific app priority for sound in Windows 11.
I seem to remember a fix on some obscure forum for this but I couldn't find it. I also seem to remember a video that discussed a way to reset sound from within DaVinci to make it work, but I can't find that either (I'd gladly take hitting a button to do that). Any help from the community is appreciated, if any of you have seen something similar. Thanks.
