Bug Report: 18.6.0-18.6.2 flags not visible on thumbnails

PostTue Oct 10, 2023 7:05 pm

BUG REPORT

Starting with version 18.6.0 through verson 18.6.2, FLAGS are no longer visible in the TOP LEFT corner of THUMBNAILS in the MEDIA POOL view. I use the flags to organize/separate cameras on multicamera Television series. Although they are still visible on the clip thumbnails in the Color mode, they are not visibe on the thumbnails in the Media Pool in the cut, edit, or color mode. Having them visible everywhere on thumbnails is CRUCIAL, and for me, especially necesary in assigning the flags and organizing media.

I looked throughout the UI and in the settings for an option to turn this on and was not able to find one.

PLEASE fix this bug.

Thank you in advance.
Miguel

Well, "all caps" is against almost every forum etiquette for decades, so it's not about being sensitive.

I used caps in the past myself, in titles for words like MP4 or different acronyms and I got the Peter treatment, which is fine. I prefer a simple but strict rule applied to everyone by the mods, than an ambiguous one enforced sporadically.

My sincere apologies. I use all caps for emphasis, to make words stand out at first glance. It wasn't my intention to use them as "shouting." Again, I apologize, I grew up in a time before the internet even existed.

That said, would it be possible for the content of my post to be addressed? Specifically, the bug that started on version 18.6.0 and continued through version 18.6.2 where the flags are no longer visible on thumbnails in the media pool view?

I can re-post my bug report without the all caps emphasized words if that will help to address the issue?

Thank you in advance!

No they aren't, obviously I would have seen that, but thank you for your response to my post regardless.

Flags are shown top RHS of the thumbs in the media pool, not the LHS.

I see them on my MacOS system, 18.6.2.

I don't see if you are on windows 10,11 or a flavor of Linux but besides that info, it could be a GPU driver issue.

Another possibility is display resolution. Are you using scaling or two monitors with mismatched resolution?

Hey Peter, thank you for your response.

Here are my system specs:

Windows 10
Nvidia Studio Driver 537.58
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti
11Gen Intel 19-11 900K @3.50Ghz
128GB Ram

Please see the attached image I posted in this thread. I have always had the flags visible in the top left corner, but the point I'm making is that the flags are no longer visible at all. This is why I'm reporting this as a bug.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Miguel

Did this change in 18.6? Because in 18.5, Flags are shown in top LHS, and Clip Colors are shown in top RHS.

As others are seeing this work, it might not be a Resolve bug.

Is it all projects that have the issue? All Libraries?

Are these Local, Network or Cloud Libraries?

If you start a new project in 18.6.2, do the Flags show up?

To clarify:

1.Flags can be seen in List View
2.Flags are not visible in Metadata or Thumbnail View
3. All my projects have this issue
4. All Libraries have this issue
5. Storage is Loal
6. Issue occurs on new projects as well.

Update:
The Flags have moved from the Top Left side of the tumbnails to the Top Right and only become visible when a color is added to the clips. Uncolored clips do not show the flags. (I figured this out by mistake)This inconsistent behavior looks like a UI Bug/Issue. Flags should be visible on uncolored clips as well.

A work around could be to color all the clips before adding flags in the thumbnail view then removing the color, but this should not be necessary.

Jim, are you seeing thie flags in thumbnail view on clips that are not colored?

Best,
Miguel

Ben, it looks like the flags have moved from the Top Left to the Top Right in Thumbnail view, and for me, they only become visible when a color is added to the clip. Uncolored clips do not show the flags in the Metadata or the Thumbnail view.

Tested here and Flags show on clips in the Media Pool List and Thumbnail views, Timeline, and Edit List on my system. Apart from one audio track the clips are at their default colors.

I will add that Clip Colors are not showing on the clip Thumbnails or List View.

Update: If I change the Clip Color by right clicking on the clip in the Media Pool, it adds a color mark bottom left of the thumbnail. It also appears in the List View in the Media Pool. It does not do this if I change the Clip Color in the Timeline.

I meant "given a color", pink , yellow, blue, etc. Not colored as in color corrected.

Charles, thank you for both your responses in this thread. One conlcusion I'm making is that the thumbnail indicators for both clip color and flags has been changed in version 18.6 of Resolve and it appears to be inconsistent/buggy. I tested changing the clip color on the timeline and for me, it actually worked showing the clip color indicator on the thumbnails in both the thumbnail and metadata view.

Your posts got me thinking. Maybe it's the type of media that is giving different results when the appearance of flags on thumbanils should be consistent regardless of the media type.

For my client I'm using MXF media (from an AAF or imported directly) and the flags are not visible unless I assign a color to the clip.

For camera original media (mp4 from a Sony A7iv), flags are visible regardless of adding a clip color.

This is inconsistent behavior and that tells me it's a bug.

I do not need to add a Clip Color to see the Flags.

I don't use AAF. I wonder if that's the 'gotcha' here.

THANK YOU to everyone that participted in this thread. The flags issue did in fact turn out to be a bug that did not display the flag on clips without linked audio and it was patched in version 18.6.3.

Thanks again!
