Apple store license, some clarification needs from bmd

PostMon Oct 16, 2023 3:54 pm

Hi guys,
i have to deal with a resolve's license bought from App store, but i found fragmented infos on web, on app store description and i need more clarification.

I read on appstore that license can work in family up to 5 computer, but i read also that there is some restriction due publishing on app store, like MacOs Only, Metal and OpenCl only, no external vst or Ofx could not be compatible, and if i need that feature i should download from bmd website.

No. The BMD website Resolve Studio will not work with an App Store Studio license.

You'll need to buy a Resolve Studio license to use the Studio version from the BMD web site.

Here's a list of Resolve Studio features:

If you look at some of the features listed, they have a footnote that says:

Not available in Mac OS App Store installations.

I believe Apple had specific restrictions for anything sold on their App Store, and so that's why there's a separate version. Me personally, I think it's unfortunate that anybody buys it, because there's so many limitations to it. But you can use it on 5 different computers at the same time, so that's one positive thing.

Thanks Mark. I check all single *
I collaborate with a school which bought it from App Store, but restrictions is not a bad problem for teaching resolve.
Good thing is that they can use on more computer than I thought.

You're right about the limitations—App Store versions are sandboxed, so external VSTs and OFX plugins often won’t work, and it’s restricted to Metal on macOS. If your friend needs those features, the direct BMD download is the better route.
