Resolve Studio 18.6.2 Fairlight Issue in macOS Sonoma 14.1

PostMon Oct 30, 2023 5:24 pm

Others have also experience it !
It appears that you cannot move, shut. or control anything thing in Fairlight as well as the edit page. Third party plugins don’t show this behaviour, only Resolve edit page and esp. Fairlight does.

Same problem as yours. But BlackMagic seems absent. Did you solve it in any way?

Yes, this is pretty hard to work with. Wish there was a work-around for this.

YES! I have noticed this as well and it's incredibly frustrating. For every effect I want to add in fairlight I have to go back to the edit page then back to fairlight just to close the effect window.

Same problem for me too. The assistance does not respond though .... This is very bad because I use DaVinci for Work and this problem suddenly popped up with no motivation.

As discussed on another thread, we are looking into what changed with Sonoma 14.1

The workaround for now is to avoid the fairlight page and do all the mixing and editing of effects in the inspector of the edit page.

Re: Risolvi il problema Fairlight di Studio 18.6.2 in macOS

PostTue Oct 31, 2023 11:26 am

I did various tests. These are the solutions that can be adopted to get around the problem.

1. avoid fairlight... but it's hard when you have the audio to edit
2. use global presets from the FAIRLIGHT › LOCAL PRESETS menu of course you can't make new ones, but you can use the ones you created
3. downgrade to DaVinci Resolve 18.0 this version does not suffer the problem But be careful... Catalogs, projects, and databases are not compatible, so it's just good to start new projects.
4. downgrade OSX

Has anyone tried to re-install DaVinci 18.6.2 on top of the current installation? After I export my current project, I'll try to uninstall/re-install and see if it helps with the ui bug, in case the macOS update corrupted something in the Davinci installation. However if someone tried it already, I would want to re-invent the wheel :)

As a data point for this discussion, both Photoshop and Excel suffer from a related problem with Sonoma 14.1. It's entirely possible that this is a macOS issue. I'll be most interested to hear from BMD as to whether they can retool the UI messaging pipeline to correct this issue (or if we need to wait for an update to Sonoma - I've posted elsewhere a request to those beta-testing macOS with Resolve to see if the new Sonoma 14.2 beta already has a fix for this, but so far no takers).

I'll test it now and let you know. BTW, reinstalling 18.6.2 did nothing to help.

I'll reply here for now. Just installed the 14.2 public beta. Issue is still there unfortunately.

Thanks for testing. It could be that Apple doesn't see this as a bug, but a change to the processing order of UI messages to support their new widgets, etc. I guess we'll find out eventually :?

I'm sure Blackmagic is aware. I'll also report it to the Apple Feedback Assistant, having the beta installed now...

I confirm that the beta doesn’t fix it.
I have EQ and Dynamics active on every track and thats frustrating.
as a workaround use third part plugins, I can confirm waves F6, MV2, C6 and others works fine

That's a good point. Hadn't tried third party plugins as a workaround...

Good thinking. There is no ETA on a fix - it may be a Resolve issue and it may be a Sonoma issue. TBD.

Interesting that Sonoma 14.2 beta 1 didn't have this fix. Apple pushed 14.1.1 out pretty quickly - this must have had a broader impact than just Resolve.

Definitely! Final Cut X Pro, Photoshop and other Adobe software also suffered from some problems, so I assume it was a very serious OS problem.
