Downloading Studio when I've already purchased and have key

PostMon Nov 13, 2023 9:21 pm

Time after time for the last six years I've had to reinstall Studio onto a new computer and Blackmagic makes it extremely difficult to find the direct download where one already has the serial from a prior purchase. Anyone know how to go about doing this? When I click on studio download BM wants paid first, but I've already done that and have the key. What a pita.

Go to https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... and-fusion, select the version/platform desired, and select the "Download Only" link in the lower left corner.

Hello there.

I've never had the kind of problems you describe.

Here's how to download Resolve Studio.
Good luck!

I am having the same issue. I purchased the Studio license last year and now I'm trying to install it on my second computer, which has the non-studio version installed. I downloaded the studio "upgrade" that was posted above, installed it, and I still do not have Studio version privileges. I have my receipt with the Studio serial number, but I don't see any way to enter that number in to upgrade this free version to the studio version. It just presents two options "buy now" or "not yet".

Please follow the advice by Petter right above.
You don't upgrade, but you have to completely replace the free version by Studio. Better use the uninstaller supplied with the download and start over. If DR is not asking you for the key when starting for the first time, you don't have Studio installed.

Responding to myself after figuring out the solution. The free version needs to be uninstalled first, then install the studio version. Seems crazy to me that Blackmagic hasn't made an easy way to input an activation code and have it upgrade the software, or at the very least to be able to install the studio version over top of a newer install of the free version.

Depends on your OS. On a Mac you can just overwrite it, but under Windows it sometimes gets stuck.

Same question. I bought a blackmagic pocket camera that comes with an activation code for resolve and fusion.

However, I cannot find where to download the fusion portion. In the reply above, someone pointed to the link but that is fusion studio that requires a dongle which I do not have. I need fusion studio that can be activated by a code.

The resolve studio above does say it can be activated by a code; however I'm looking for fusion, not resolve.

When DR is activated, Fusion is automatically activated too.

I landed here after having to Google the solution.

Here's my thought process I am sure most software user will think the same logical way.

I logged in and got to my BM Cloud page. That's like my home age with my projects in the cloud. The first icon on the page is Davinci Resolve. Click on it and you get a download link. I fell into the trap of downloading from there and only after installing, I found out it's not a studio version.

Why in the world they put a none studio version on a studio owners home page? And why in the world they don't have the studio version there as an option? So, that icon there is useless for the users.

Of course, I know how to find it now after learning it the hard way. I just want to point out it's not not intuitive. It's a small issue but could be made user-friendly and save the users some time.

BTW, when I searched on Google, "Why is it so hard to find the download link for Davinci Resolve Studio?" Gemini answered me, "It's very easy to find. Just purchase it." And it show me how to buy. Duh! :D

I have definitely had this problem. Just look at the example and ask if that is a page that BM makes easily accesible. I only know about it because of this thread. Bad on BM.
