Issues with the raw function for XAVC I from FX30

PostWed Jan 03, 2024 5:50 am

I was trying to use the new function of the XAVC files being read at the raw control pannel, but even after transcoding at the catalyst browse the footage that was shot in XAVC-I generating a .mxf file the pannel didnt opened for me. What can i do?

On 18.5 Studio, the feature called "Support for raw controls for Sony XAVC clips" was added. It was not stated in the release notes or in the Resolve manual, but this was apparently intended only for S-Log3 XAVC-I clips in the MXF container from the FX6, FX9. However it also works for 4k XAVC-L 8-bit 4:2:0 S-Log3 from the FX6, which I did not expect.

The below video claims that transcoding an FX30 MP4 clip to XAVC-I MXF in Catalyst Browse can then use "RAW controls for XAVC" feature in Resolve. However I have tried this on my A7SIII and it did not work. See attached Invisor output showing metadata comparison of A7SIII XAVC-SI MP4 transcoded to XAVC-I MXF in Catalyst Browse. There is some missing metadata in the transcoded version. Maybe that is why it does not work (at least for me).

MXF is a professional container format that contains much more metadata than a consumer format like MP4.

Neither works for me. It only works with the right camera and original MXF until now.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
