DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor gone bye bye???

PostWed Feb 14, 2024 4:01 pm

I'm at DaVinci Resolve 18.6.5.
My Speed Editor firmware is at 1.4.4
Windows is 11 23H2
The LED's won't light up, and it doesn't say connected in DaVinci Resolve

The computer is the same, bluetooth dongle is nearby, and the keyboard shows as paired (I've tried resetting multiple times).
Only thing is, it will not connect via BT, and the LED's will not light up.
I've used this for a few years, and I'm finally getting a handle on it, and it does help.

Most of the time I can connect it through USB though.
The firmware seems to be the newest:

What can I do?

If you can connect via USB then your Speed Editor hasn't gone bye bye, rather you've just got bluetooth/pairing issues with it. That said, there is an apparent known issue with RGB / LED control software conflicting with Speed Editor communication via USB, so if you have anything like that installed (eg RGB keyboard software etc) then it may be worth uninstalling that, just in case, to see if that helps straighten things out.

Hi Andy, thankyou for the suggestion.
The only thing I could find like that was my Logitech G Hub, that has been uninstalled, and the computer restarted.
It's showing as BT connected:

But DaVinci Resolve stil doesn't see it

Have you tried removing the pairing from Windows. Restart and then re-pair.

Same problem here ...

Since the Update to 18.6.5 - I cant get the speed editor to "run" ... But the Da Vinci Control Panel says otherwise (c screenshot).

Control Panel shows the speed editor but it still wont work

The editor works fine with my Ipad via Bluetooth, but i need to srub through 1TB of footage ...

... I also found a "Troubleshooting" advice here, and tried it without suc-cess.

Speed Editor Keyboard Troubleshooting
Speed Editor Stops Working after a DaVinci Resolve update

Some users have experienced issues with their keyboards ceasing to work after updating DaVinci Resolve. The instructions below come from Leo Dsouza on the Blackmagic Forum.

Note: Before you perform the below steps make sure to back up your Database.

First, uninstall both the Resolve and the Keyboard Panel.
Download the latest version of Resolve
Make sure Speed Editor is connected through USB
Install Resolve and the Keyboard Panel.
Launch the Resolve application.
You will see a prompt stating about an update for Speed Editor. Click to update. Do not disconnect Speed Editor from USB while it updates.
When it finishes, Speed Editor’s lights should turn on.
Disconnect the USB cable from the Speed Editor.
Next, you will need to reset your Bluetooth settings.
If your Speed Editor is still connected through Bluetooth, disconnect. Then reconnect it.
You should get a prompt asking you whether you want to pair the Speed Editor. Click “Allow”. You should be able to use the Speed Editor on Resolve

The only step in the quote that failed to happen, was the "promting for the update of the speed editor"

BTW the version is : Da Vinci Keyboard Build b13612e5

It was also mentioned, that any RGB lightning device could be the source of the problem, so i denied these software to load on reboot. AND i still need these programms (not for choosing a lightning effect)

Any suggestions would be very very apreciated!

Hi @SkieEvans

Yes, I did that, first thing I did was to softreset the speed editor, next thing was to remove the pairing, and factory reset it, and then reboot / repair.

Hi @GRIEDU

Thankyou for the suggestion, like you, it didn't change anything for me.

I had some bluetooth wonkiness with the Speed Editor, but they went away when I removed the device from the Windows device manager and paired it again.

I gave up on the Windows BT and bought an ASUS BT dongle six months ago.

All of my SE connection issues vanished.

Maybe Windows connection conflicts occurring between the BT and USB for the same device are causing your issue?

I went through the route of BT USB adapter that worked before I realized I need to attach the antenna on my motherboard. An antenna with about 3 feet cable attached to back of motherboard with gold clips. With the antenna attached works great. Wonder if WIN 11 has made a difference in the OP case.

In my case too the Speed Editor would show as paired but I assume the signal was not sufficient to work.

Sorry for the late reply, I got the Rona. It's kicking my butt for a while.

I bought the ASUS USBBT500. $15 @ Best Buy.

I think I've pinpointed the problem, as I also mentioned in another thread.
It's a bug in the Logitech USB driver for Lightspeed (used in their Logitech G series).
As soon as I uninstalled the Lightspeed dongle, and removed the driver from the system, and then connected my Logitech G915 keyboard via Bluetooth it works as it should again!

Just wanted to report that I don't have any Logitech devices plugged in, but experienced a similar issue where the speed editor isn't detected by Davinci Resolve, but does connect via Bluetooth (however, it reports a "driver error"). Turning off the Google Drive desktop app of all things so it no longer appears in my hidden icons area has consistently resolved the driver error issue for me. I'm on Windows 11, running a custom build PC.

Some older Intel Wireless drivers and utilities are blocked by Windows security, and they're old enough that there isn't an update that fixes the issue.

Maybe that is part of the issue?
