Sync Reaper and DaVinci Resolve

PostWed Feb 21, 2024 7:23 pm

Hello everyone, I am new here.

We have a customer operates Reaper on one Mac Pro and Resolve on another Mac Pro. We require to synchronizing both programs via MIDI or LTC. Can anyone provide guidance on whether this is feasible?

Thanks
Fernando.

Resolve Studio can output LTC and Reaper can slave a Resolve system.

Enable the generator via the Fairlight menu > Remote Control Settings.

Patch LTC to any physical output via the Fairlight menu > Patch IO and select the System Generator as Source with the Timecode option.

Alternatively, Resolve Studio also includes the Fairlight Monitor AFX allowing Resolve to run as a Rewire Master. Note that Resolve only runs as Master and will not run as slave.

Hello Reynaud,
Thank you very much for your answer !!
We currently have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) running Reaper with an Apollo X8P interface. According to the manual, the Apollo x8p's internal clock can be synchronized (slaved) to an external master word clock. This synchronization process involves configuring the Apollo x8p's clock source to Word Clock within the Console application, connecting the external word clock's BNC connector to the Apollo x8p's word clock input, and ensuring the external device transmits word clock. Additionally, if the Apollo x8p is the last device in the clock chain, the Termination switch (#30) should be engaged.

Considering our setup, and applying your suggestion, and another suggestion that they gave us, I believe that by incorporating a DeckLink card into the other Mac Pro (Rack 2019) running DaVinci Resolve, we can designate it as the master word clock and synchronize both systems as we need.

Regards
Fernando

It is always preferable to run house clock (tri-level, black burst, PTP) via a Nanosync or Meinberg to avoid drift.
