Keyboard shortcut to move a clip to another track

PostThu Feb 22, 2024 8:05 pm

Hi all,

As the subject says, I am looking at a keyboard shortcut to move a clip - or a group of clips - to a different track.

Yes, I am aware of the ALT-Arrows shortcut. However when I move a clip that way, it will erase other content on tracks "in between".

Let's imagine I want to move a clip from track 1 to track 3 and there is content on track 2, if I use ALT-UP ARROW, my clip will overwrite the existing content on track 2 and when I move it again to track 3 there will be a void left on track 2.

Yes, I can place the playhead at the beginning of the clip I want to move and use the mouse. The snap-on feature will keep the clip aligned with the playhead.

But I was hoping for a keyboard shortcut.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks Joe!

I'll see if there is a feature request, otherwise I'll add it there!

Cheers!

You don't need to place the playhead, you can hold the shift key and move it with the mouse.

There was a feature request but I can't find it. One of the suggestions was to make Alt + Up/Down not overwrite any clips while the alt key is held down, any overwrites should happen once the alt key is released.

AH! That helps a lot! SHIFT prevents the clip from moving left/right! Thanks for that, it does help a lot!

Yes, that is what I would expect too! I'll find that request and append to it!
