Spatial Video for Vision Pro

PostMon Mar 25, 2024 10:35 pm

Hello,

I would like to request your help please.

We had subscribed to DaVinci Resolve Studio to edit the stereoscopic videos recorded on Canon EOS R5 C Full-Frame Hybrid Camera with RF5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye Lens. These videos are meant to be viewed as immersive 3D videos on Apple Vision Pro.

In spite of trying so hard and following help videos available on YouTube, we were not able to do do this successfully. We had two problems with this - Firstly, we could not view the edited clip as a proper rectangular video on the Vision Pro. It was still showing up as 2 shots, side by side for right eye and left eye. Secondly, we could not stitch the clips to create a single video. As a result, we had to stop the subscription to DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you.

Hi, has anyone ever given a response to this? I am experiencing a similar issue.

If I find out anything, I can let you know and vice versa.

Hi all,

I am also looking to make immersive video specifically for the Vision Pro.
How in the world do you do that?

Hopefully by the end of 2024, there will be an updated version of DaVinci Resolve Studio that supports immersive video recorded on the BMD Cine Immersive camera (to be released by the end of this year). The camera records two streams of 8K video, one for the ‘left eye’ camera lens and one for the ‘right eye’ camera lens and both streams are recorded as a single BRAW file.

That’s the way to go.

Yeah! They announced the two together. It's almost the end of the year, but no updates!! I wanna do some immersive video, but have no clue how.

Was hoping to just get the BMD camera and DaVinci and learn by doing.

Resolve 19.1 adds spatial video/photo support to the existing suite of stereoscopic 3D tools. Here's to hoping that so-called "Immersive Video" (aka VR180 and 3D360º video) is added next!

Right now with a Canon camera with any of the dual fisheye lenses the only way to do it is to convert the video using the Canon EOS VR utility to convert it to mp4 which can be edited in Davinci Resolve.

Spatial Video for Vision Pro

Certainly BMD’s approach is more elegant with their Immersive camera capturing a single file from the two 8K sources which can be input to DaVinci Resolve.

Certainly having to use the Canon VR utility, with its limitations, is annoying. However not sure why you mention having just one file is a BMD advantage. A Canon dual fisheye capture results in just one file.

Good that Canon produces a single file as well, but the Resolve workflow is simpler.

Hi All.

Just received my R7 with dual fisheye lens today and came here to ask what the latest, simplest workflow is but it appears there isn't one on here yet.

I have seen 2 people have put videos on youtube though - one I have followed for many years (Hugh Hou) and I saw another one just the other day. I'll be looking at these over the next couple of weeks to try it all out but here they are:

Interested to hear about creating spatial videos with these cameras. I didn't realise they could do that, I thought it would just be VR180 (or VR140 in the R7's case).

To be honest, I've found the iPhone quite adequate for spatial video - so good to press a button and have it on the HMD in seconds. Now that we can edit spatial in DR and FCP, even better!
