'Clips cant be decoded' problem with offline clips.

PostFri Mar 29, 2024 2:16 pm

So this is a weird problem.

Clips are visible, linked and playing in the edit page, even it shows its offline.
But once i want to export it gives an error that the clips cant be decoded.

This is the second project in a row, with footage from the Sony FX3 and Sony A7IV, i never had the problem before, it just happened overnight

I have some screenshots with the problem showing. If I export the project, and open it on a different laptop, it works, no clips offline and exporting without a problem.

I work on the Macbook M3 Pro with 18gb memory and 1tb internal storage.

Hope to somebody that can help me with the solution.

This isn’t actually uncommon. It’s often what’s going wrong when the media displays as red “offline” frames but you know the file is there. Doing an export is apparently a way to get some extra info out of Resolve. Useful!

As far as you actual problem it seems there’s some issue with M3 Macs and hardware accelerated decode. Nobody really knows if it’s Resolve, the OS, or maybe even the M3 chip.

Until either Apple or BM fixes this, did you try to convert to ProRes 422 HQ externally?
Yes, it needs time and space, but might be the workaround for now.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

This! And why can't we get a definitive answer from BMD? I would have thought that it was in their best interests to investigate.
