VST plugins significantly slow down (and crash) timelines

Is it "normal" that VST plugins have significant hit to Timeline performance?

After adding 10+ plugins opening the timeline might take about 5-10s. (from instant in case no VST)
And the more plugins the longer it takes to open the timeline.

I also had cases where I was making a cut in the audio clip which had VST plugins on it and Davinci simply froze.

I had cases where i was copy pasting audio settings from one clip to many and if it involves VST plugins oh boy...

I've noticed similar problems with different plugins from Wave and other brands.
Tried AU versions and depending on the plugin some can be faster some can be even slower.

I'm on Macbook Pro M1 Max 64Gb of ram.
Studio 18.6.6

I've had that exact same experience on Windows 10. During my last project where I did all of the audio in Resolve, I had repeated freezes and crashes while using VST plugins. Switching to any timeline that had plugins was extremely slow or crashed completely, even simply selecting the timeline in the media pool would frequently crash Resolve, etc. From now on I'll be sticking with rendering audio out of Resolve and mixing in Reaper.

If the host is crashing with plugins consider including a link to logs to determine if the plugin is crashing internally. Instructions to generate logs in the FAQ: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=90190#16
