Dolby Vision analysis on dissolves

PostThu Apr 11, 2024 8:21 pm

I am performing a Dolby Vision analysis on a timeline that contains a couple of dissolves. From my understanding the dissolves should have per frame analysis - not per shot as the rest of the timeline. When I export the xml metadata everything contains per shot analysis including the dissolves. I'm using version 18.6. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Please help.

When there are dissolved shots, Dolby Vision analysis cannot be performed correctly. You need to make the two shots into new compound clip, turn them into one shot, and then analyze it again. That's ok!

A dissolve is described by per shot metadata followed by per frame edit offset metadata. this edit offset metadata is recorded for each frame of the dissolve.

Check

at approx 3:51. your XML should look somewhat similar.

This is exactly what I'm expecting but the Resolve analysis is not producing it. Am I doing something wrong? All I did was analyze the timeline which has some dissolves in it.

I briefly tested on Resolve 18.6.5 built 7 using a cross dissolve. Both shots on a single video track (V1) and it works as it should.

Thank you all for your response. I had to uninstall/reinstall and it works now. Go figure.
Now I have another issue. When creating an IMF package the Dolby Vision metadata will not embed. I don't know if there's something wrong with Resolve or what. I don't remember doing an extra step the last time I did it successfully a few months ago. What am I missing?

Did you select Preset Type "Dolby Vision"?

Tested on 18.6.5 and it works as expected. Can you share some further info on your system setup?

I did not enable tone mapping if that's what you're asking but Dolby Vision is enabled in settings and metadata is present for sure. I am using the Dolby Vision HD Netflix preset.

I am using Da Vinci Resolve 18.6.1 Build 8 on Windows 10 Pro.
