By deleting a database it doesn't remove it from PostgreSQL

PostMon Apr 15, 2024 3:53 pm

DRS 18.6.6
why, when I remove a database, it doesn't delete it from PostgreSQL?

It enables me to "disconnect it" but not to rename it or to delete it.

Removing a database from the Project Manager allows disconnecting from a database without deleting that database for all other users.

For Postgres databases, you can use the PGAdmin application to actually delete the database or manually drop the database via Terminal using: drop database "<db>";

Just drop the database to remove it completely.

did it yesterday after have had access to the command line of PostgreSQL (as you suggested). Not really the way to work. But at least I cleaned some stuff.
Impractical way. This must be revised and improved by BMD.

If you use the separate DaVinci Resolve Project Server it does have the ability to delete a PostgreSQL database, you just can't do it from within DaVinci Resolve.

Where is it please? I mean where does it start from?
Since from the Shell it's not possible to delete any database and I don't see any "Server" from the available .exe files

EDIT: if you refer to the Cloud: that's not my case and I was not even refer to it.
Because the only one place where I see the "server" is in the Cloud.

And I clearly told into the title PostgreSQL ... not Cloud.

DaVinci Resolve Project Server is a separate download to manage and share DaVinci Resolve PostgreSQL databases. It has nothing to do with the cloud. It's your own local database server for your network. The current version is 18.5 (works with later versions of Resolve including 19).

It's available at https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/davinci-resolve-and-fusion, it's called "DaVinci Resolve Project Server 18.5".

Note that it installs PostgreSQL if it's not already installed, so if you require a certain version of PostgreSQL for some reason it might not be the best option for you. Consider that if your goal is to restore existing database backups made with another version.

Once you're in the Project Server and have clicked to see the details of a database, click the cogwheel to bring up options for Rename, Export Access Key and Delete.

PostgreSQL is just the database component. You can install it separately as you already have.

The DaVinci Resolve Project Server is another standalone application that helps manage it.

ok I'm downloading it right now (the DaVinci Server) and installing.
It would like to install the PostgreSQL 13.4-1

yes I would need to update PostgreSQL but not now ... I have to back up all the projects first.

NOTE: by not installing it's PostgreSQL 13.4-1, it doesn't find the database and it doesn't start

Yes, I would recommend backing up individual projects (.drp) in this case and not rely on full database backups as they might be tricky to restore between different versions of PostgreSQL.

As an alternative, one simple way is to copy the projects in the Project Manager to your local disk database first. Then copy them to your new Project Server when it's installed.

Anyway, here's a screenshot of where the Delete option for a database/project library is in the Project Server.

I already stumbled upon an issue. Immediately after the installation of the postgresql 13.4-1 by starting the DaVinci Server

The PostgreSQL server is either not running
or the password is incorrect.

but there is not any way to setup a login and password however ...
NOTE: the PostgreSQL 13 is up and running.

I assume that's because you already have an instance of PostgreSQL setup on your machine, requiring you to use that account instead of the default account that Resolve wants to use.

i deleted the Postgresql 11.

But now nothing is working. there is teh 13.4-1.
The DaVinci server is NOT able to connect
Davinci resolve not able to do anything with

The message form the DaVinci server is the same
btu Postgres is running

With DaVinci Resolve if I want to create a new database

could not connect to server: Connection refused
(0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running
on host "127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP
connections on port 5432? QPSQL: Unable to connect

which is strange.

There's something really wrong I can't figure out. I don't recall what I did when I installed DaVinci the first time under PostgreSQL in 2021.
