Can't export project: Unable to Archive Media Pool/Timeline

PostSat May 18, 2024 12:40 am

I'll preface this by saying I'm by no means an experienced Resolve user. I only started using it last year to become familiar with more NLE's, and in this case primarily to take advantage of Resolve's Fairlight capabilities which I have found to be impressive. On the other hand, there's not a day I don't bump into something else that makes my usage of the software frustrating and sometimes downright unusable;

I understand Resolve saves projects in a peculiar way, not as a single project file I would expect from say Premiere. So, the way to get my projects from one computer to another would be to "Export Project" (command + E on Mac). When I do this, however, I consistently get the two errors "Unable to Archive Media Pool" and "Unable to Archive Timeline". A .DRP file is still created after I select "Abort" (the only option on both error messages), but I am then unable to open these files as I'm given the error "Unable to Import Project (Failed to create temporary folder)". I do not currently have another computer to test if they open there instead.
Please advise!

My specifications:
MacBook Pro 14-inch, 2021, M1 Pro chip, running macOS Monterey
DaVinci Resolve free version, 17.2 build 11
Resolve has Full Disk Access (behavior remains regardless of this setting being on or off)

That is strange. My advice would be to do the following:

1) copy the entire timeline contents to the clipboard

2) with Dynamic Project Switching turned on over on the Project Manager, create a new (empty project)

3) go to the Edit page of the empty project, and create a new Empty timeline

4) paste the contents of the clipboard onto the timeline

5) save the new project and give it an identifiable name.

This should give you a new working project with all the contents of the old one. You'll still have to re-setup your editing bins and so on, but other than that, it should basically work.

BTW, you should avoid using the free version of Resolve and instead buy Resolve Studio. It has more powerful features and is absolutely worth the money.

Hi Marc, thanks for the reply

Unfortunately the behavior persists after following these steps. Even upon creating a new unrelated project with unrelated media and timelines, and another without anything in it at all, the behavior persists. I get the feeling it has something to do with permissions given the "unable to create temporary folder" error, yet I've granted Resolve full disk access so I'm unsure how...

I am getting the exact same error too. Can the developers please chime in? What could be causing this?

Just to add: this happens on creating a new project and a new timeline, without any media, and immediately attempting to export the project.

Fix

I found the issue wasn’t present when I installed the non-App store version concurrently.
Unfortunately the project I needed wasn’t available in the project manager.

However I then deleted and reinstalled the App Store version, and now I was able to export the project successfully.
