Fairlight 18 Surround Problem (Newbie Question)

PostWed May 22, 2024 8:44 pm

Hello all forum.

I have been using the colour and edit parts of Resolve Studio for a very long time. I am also interested in sound and music. I'm working on a feature film with all post-production done with Davinci Resolve.

However, since I am not very familiar with Fairlight, I cannot solve a simple problem.I watched Fairlight training videos on site, I even took a look at the 650-page pdf book.

Here's my stupid question.

I work with about 30 channels of sound. Dialog, Fx and Music, atmosphere, foley etc. You know.
All channels are mono.
Premix completed.
Each volume level sounds balanced. There's nothing wrong with these.

The problem is this. How will these 30 channels be 5+1?
There are 30 channels and 1 main bus.
Main bus, the stereo bus that comes out when the Davinci opens.
I'm changing this bus to 5+1.
And I connect all channels to this 5+1 bus. But only Centre works.

:)

Here's what I can't figure out. How can I tell this to this programme?

-Send dialogue channels only to the centre.
-Everything else to other channels.

In short, I can't figure out how to connect the 30 channel project file I made to the 5 + 1 stem channels.

I think it is all about Busses. But I can't figure out.

If you help me, I'll be very happy.

Thanks

Use the Fairlight Panner which is accessed from the Fairlight Mixer.
Workspace menu > Show Panel in Workspace Mixer or click the Mixer icon.

Double click the Pan module on the Mixer channel to open a larger Panner window in the UI.
If the Pan module is not visible access the Fairlight Mixer's Additional Options (3 dots) menu and enable "Pan".

If the source has pre-assigned elements (e.g. 5.1 Music stem) use Fairlight menu > Link Group to link source channels in the required channel configuration (e.g. SMPTE 5.1). Assignments will be completed automatically and source channels will be panned appropriately.
