Blackmagic Cloud "Cannot Enable Collaboration"

PostThu May 23, 2024 1:51 pm

My team is having a strange behavior with Blackmagic Cloud. My team is spread out across the United States. We all run different types of machines (Windows and Mac) and we are also on different network types. We work part time from home, so some of us at any given moment might be at home, or might be in an office working. The following issues that happen may rotate between users depending on the network they are connected to.

Let's say I have 3 users A,B,C. For the purpose of this example, A will be the user with issues. These are the different scenarios that happens:

1. A logs on to work on a project. B and C log on afterwards. B and C can see A, but A cannot see anyone else logging in. After about 10 seconds, B and C get kicked out the project and put in a blank project with the error message "Cannot Enable Collaboration. Please ensure that your internet connection is active". A is still able to continue working on the project.

2. B and C log onto the project first. A then logs on. A can see everyone in the project, but B and A cannot see A. After about 10 seconds A gets kicked out the project and put in a blank project with the error message "Cannot Enable Collaboration. Please ensure that your internet connection is active". B and C are still able to work on the project and collaborate.

I don't think it's the networks but how our machines are handling the network. For instance, I ran a test yesterday where two of my team mates (A and B) were both on the same network sitting next to each other while I (C) am across the country at home. A's machine was showing the same behavior as in scenarios 1 and 2 above. If it was the network I'd expect B to also show the same, but B and I were able to collaborate just fine.

I have made sure our team is on the same version of Resolve, which at this moment is 18.6.6. The issue changes between users depending on the network they are connected to. Collaboration is enabled for each project. After disconnecting I generated a log file to see what is happening (the relevant snippet from it is below). I am seeing that a peerId fails to register, however I don't know why this is the case, or even what that means. Is it a network port issue (I've seen that on the forums) or is it something to do with the failed user's connection, or maybe something is wrong with how the Blackmagic Cloud identifies that user? Any help is appreciated.

After hours of searching we figured out our team mate was on VPN, once he turned it off he was able to collaborate. However it seems sometimes there are issues depending on the different networks we are on, so I'll keep updated here in case anyone else has this issue.
