Imported video shows wrong creation date.

PostSat Aug 03, 2024 9:20 pm

I am editing some video with hundreds of clips from Iphones and Android phones. The creation date in windows is correct in the Windows file explorer but when I import them into Davinci Resolve Studio 19 Beta 5 the creation date is incorrect for most of the videos. Can we please finally fix this in this version of Resolve, I have found complaints of this dating back to 2020.

This makes the job of editing incredibly complex as I have to look at each in explorer to match date and time. Why cant Blackmagic get this right. Anyone find a work around to this please let us know. I saw a workaround for MacOS but not windows.

I am running Resolve with Windows 11 Pro with a Ryzen AI 9HX and a Geforce 4060 with 32gb system RAM. :|

There is nothing to correct. It is displaying dates and times correctly.
Date Created is when the file was copied to your computer. Date Modified is the date it was shot. Windows Finder follows this same pattern.

This is the Media Pool view of the same list. You can always remove columns you don't need to aid clarity.

Actually item date is now the date it is shot. So no it is not correct. I have to use the bulk file rename utility to change the date created to the item date then I am able to sort them in resolve.

I deliberately chose that example because of the disparate years and times. These are all shown correctly in the Date Modified column. I know because I shot them all. ;)

Here's a more recent one. Again, the Date Modified shows that they were all shot on the same day but at different times. The Date Created shows the date and times the files were transferred from the SD card to the computer, and the Date Added shows the date and time that the clips were added to the Media Pool.

just found this thread as I was also struggling with shooting date sorting.
Most of my files were transferred from a Canon DSLR to the PC using Canon's EOS Utility. Some others come from other devices and were copied straight from the SD card.
None of the date fields in DR show the correct shooting date/time; however the correct data is visible when looking at the "Media created" property in the "Details" page of the files properties in Windows explorer; this property can be used as a sortable column in Windows Explorer, but apparently not in DR, unless I missed something ?

So I have to use a batch file rename tool to fix that ?
