Audio Problems with Studio 19

PostFri Aug 23, 2024 8:38 pm

Hello, how are you?

I'm having problems with the sound in my timeline, I had the last Beta of DR Studio 19 and everything was fine, after that I updated to the final version and I started to suffer problems with the audio and the rendering in the timeline.

I have a good Mac, M3 Pro and I was working with a project in 1080, so it's not a hardware problem.

Before upgrading to the final version I have done several projects in 4k, with multiple effects and much more complicated jobs for the hardware without any problems.

The audio problem is generally delay, it speeds up at times, cuts out... it does a lot of strange things, but only in the timeline which prevents me from editing. Then in the export there are no problems, but it's impossible to edit.

Anyone else? Thanks!

I also have some audio problems lately.
It started with the last beta and now on the final. Usually it plays just fine for a while, and than suddenly the audio cuts out.

Not sure if this is related though.

Similar problems in Windows. A 4K video (3 minutes), nothing in fusion, some color correction.

I am on 19 studio version and the sound starts ok, but gradually there is more distortion like some echo and hickups (the sound is just a melody playing, unrelated to the clips).

I disabled all effect tabs on the audio channel (pan, volume, pitch...) no change.

I disabled the video track, but the problem remains.
I deleted the video track, the problem remains !!

I played the same audiotrack outside of DVR, there is nothing wrong with it (mp3)

I am very puzzled.

I played it also in the "cut" and the "color" pages, the same problem there (although in the cut page it takes more time to get distorted)

If you convert the mp3 to a 16 or 24 bit 48k wav with Shutter Encoder or Handbrake does it still misbehave?

Yes, the problem is the same with a 24bit 48 khz wav.

I even made a new empty timeline, and inserted only the soundtrack (no video whatsoever) : same problem !

We can safely say there is a problem with the sound in DVR 19 ;)

Is this behaviour on the Edit Timeline and Fairlight?

Is the storage volume local, external or networked attached?

All storage is local.

Happy to notice that this distortion does not occur in the Fairlight page. However on edit, cut and color pages it does. It is worst of all on the fusion page (even though nothing is happening there)

Don't know if this link can help, because there is no crash, but anyway https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PvT4R2yZVFn7smhZhzsild_bLGb94gdW/view?usp=sharing

Fixed it (at least my problem).

I messed up the sidechain (ducking) setup.
Was the first time I used the new version of it.

It not only caused the audio problem, but also super slow rendering (2 FPS instead of the usual 50-100)

OK, nothing wrong with the audio.
Shame on me.

Just noticed that the playback framerate (23.97) was different than the timeline framerate (25)

I kept looking, because other, much more complicated, projects did not have that problem.

Sorry for wasting your time.

I have a similar problem where i have blank timeline, insert a 3hour 16bit WAV file, applied dialogue seperator to reduce room eccho.
Export as audio only WAV and only the first few minutes are there, the rest is totally blank. But fine in the project timeline.
Anyone else having issues exporting audio only?

Later I'll try adding a plain black screen and export as a MOV to see if all the audio gets exported with it.

Same issue here, watch the video for a great example:
Only happens in the EDIT page.

Could you outline some Project details such as:
- source video format and codec
- source video frame rate and Timeline rate
- source video resolution and Timeline resolution
- source audio format and codec
- source audio sample rate and Timeline rate
- source audio frame rate (if any indicated in metadata)

I've tried quite a lot of formats now from H265, H264, ProRes etc. I get the same results whether video is exported or audio only. I get six minutes of sound and then nothing, plus the Dialogue Seperator effect isn't applied to those six minutes.
When I take the Dialogue Seperator effect off the export works fine. and renders in quarter of the time.
Playing the audio with dialogue seperator on in the timeline works fine, unlike @shaybly my playback stays at a constant 24fps, even with the effect turned on. BUT, I have returned to the project a few times and the audio won't play, I have to restart Davinci to get the audio back.

My audio file is almost a three hour long mono WAV at a bit rate pf 768kbps and a sample rate of 48000Hz at 16bits.
My project setting for this is the default Davinci 1080p 24fps settings.
I'm using an M1 iMac with 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage with 500GB free. macOS Sonoma 14.5

I am happy to report a workaround that works for me. Somebody recommended that I turn off "fixed playhead" on my timeline and everything is now working in a usable way again. They also recommended to turn off "show all video frames" in the timeline viewer, but I didn't need to do that.

More Audio problems in Studio 19: Audio in the Fusion page can be badly out of sync.

I was starting to do composition synced to the timeline audio, but luckily I noticed that the audio played back in the Fusion page was about 4 seconds late. Purgeing the audio cache didn't do anything, and the sound offset wheel doesn't seem to do anything until the sound is completely muted.

What solved the issue for me was to:
- Set the MediaIn1 node audio track to "None"
- Create a new Media In node (audio track defaults to Timeline)
- Purge Audio Cache
- Delete the new MediaIn2 node
- Set the MediaIn1 node audio track to "Timeline"
- Purge Audio Cache

Not sure if all of the above steps are important, or if playback is needed between some of them, but I got mine fixed with roughly those steps.

Hello, I was looking for a solution because I had the same problem, identical symptoms as here in this forum post. I will brag to you that I found a solution that worked for me.

Image

Namely, if you have audio track 1, right-click until you see options, select "CHANGE TRACK TYPE TO" and select stereo. In my case, it helped, I now have smooth playback, and before it was simply impossible to work, it was jerky, even choking, the frames dropped to 10 FPS, something terrible. Let me know if this trick helped you.
