Testers Needed: Auto-Generated,Animated Captions for Resolve

Hey everyone,

I'm Mathias, the creator of BeatEdit for DaVinci Resolve. I'm starting a private beta for a new tool I’ve been working on called Caption Cat, and I wanted to see if anyone here might be interested in trying it out.

Caption Cat is designed to make creating animated captions (like the ones you often see on Instagram) really easy. It’s got a couple of key features:

Speech-to-text transcription: Works with both the free and Pro versions of DaVinci Resolve, so you can quickly generate captions from your audio.
Animated captions: Perfect for social media—each word gets highlighted as it’s spoken.
No uploads or subscriptions: Everything runs locally, so no need to worry about uploading files or monthly fees. You just own the tool.

• Your full name
• The OS you’re using (macOS or Windows) and your version of DaVinci Resolve (free or Pro)
• A quick sentence or two about what you do with Resolve or what you'd like to use Caption Cat for

Once I have your details, I’ll send over the beta version and invite you to our Slack channel where we can chat about ideas, report any bugs, and generally improve the tool together.

Please note that the prediction quality can vary depending on the amount of training data available for each language. For widely spoken languages like German, English, and Spanish the quality is definitely very good. In fact, one of our testers mentioned that Caption Cat delivers better results for German texts than Resolve's built-in transcription tool.

Up until DaVinci Resolve 19.0.3, Caption Cat worked seamlessly with both the Free and Studio versions of Resolve. However, starting with DaVinci Resolve 19.1 (released in November 2024), Blackmagic Design introduced some limitations in the Free version, which now prevent scripts like Caption Cat from creating user interfaces. As a result, Caption Cat is currently only compatible with the Studio version of Resolve 19.1 and later.
