Many issues with MultiPoly

Hey guys, I recently got a gig doing some work for somebody, and I found the best way for me to handle this project was to use DaVinci Resolve.

I attempted to animate around a Polyline, but I started with a MultiPoly to help make my life a bit easier. However, I ran into many issues, and I'm not sure if these are specific to MultiPoly or if these are issues I would have ran into with a regular PolyLine / BSpline.

However, I have run into issues that are severely affecting my ability to turn this project into the client.

1.) Crashes every time when on specific frames in the Fusion Composition

So, there are a group of keyframes around 1/3 of the way into my 30 second clip I'm working on where a number of changes to the shape happen. While these changes run fine outside of the Fusion Editor and even Export with no issue, attempting to modify these frames in anyway crashes DaVinci Resolve 100% of the time.

I don't even need to have the MultiPoly node selected, if I just navigate to these problem frames at any point in the fusion editor in this Fusion Composition, DaVinci freezes, an empty dialogue box that never properly loads appears in the top-left of my screen, and I eventually have to force close Davinci.

Eventually I split this MultiPoly into separate nodes in the hopes it might help the situation, but it does not help at all.

2.) For no reason, editing "outer" of Polyline/MultiPoly, cannot turn this off, and crashes if I make more than 1 point of "outer"

So, the most recent time I've opened DaVinci to try and really finish off this client work, every time I try to modify this MultiPoly now, instead it drags a new outer point no matter what I do, where I click, what buttons I try to turn on and off, etc.

There is no "outer" button in my UI to click that I can see, I have not modified or added an outer to the Poly before, and a new keyfrom slot in the Inspector for hte MultiPoly now has an added section for animating the outer shape with no way to remove it. As well, my shape has now become very blurry.

If I click around and try to create more than one point of the outer shape just as a way of seeing what's going on with this file, the program crashes upon creating the second point in this PolyLine. This happens 100% of the time with no deviation.

Both of these issues are preventing me from getting client work done that is due pretty much now. At first I was working around issue #1 to get this project to the client, but issue #2 is now preventing me from getting any work done entirely.

Technical Info
I'm using DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.0.2 Build 7

My PC:
Windows 10 Home 19045.5011
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5930K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
RAM: 32 GB
64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5930K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz

I cannot upload the file because it is NDA for a client.

Of all the crashes I have encountered over time for verity of reasons, I don't think it ever happened the way you describe. So this is certianly not normal. Perhaps best to upload a crash log for the developers to take a look at.

Good idea.

This is the crash log for issue #1

Crash log for issue #2

There is a possibility I switched these up, but I'm 80% confident that this is the correct order. If not, it's obviously swapsies

I hope you were able to complete the job. In the future, it's a good idea to keep Fusion Studio around too. You can always copy and paste between the two and troubleshoot in Fu Studio. It tends to be more robust and less crash happy. Happened to me today because of a special Wireless node that isn't compatible with Resolve 19.0.3. It runs great in Fusion Studio 19.0.3 but for what ever reason will cause a Fusion comp not to show on the timeline if it's in the flow. Did most of the project in Fu Studio and copied the flows into Resolve to consolidate the project and do some light color work. They didn't work till I got rid of the conflicting nodes.

Hi Ian, I had a look at your log files and was able to identify an issue with outer polylines on some linear-only cases of b-splines. I've fixed this for a future release, but in the meantime you can remove the outer poly by unticking "Enable Polyline" from the Outer Polyline submenu in the Fusion viewer's context menu. You can also click the "D" icon in the polyline toolbar at the top of the viewer to enable & disable the outer poly.

I don't know if this will help with your first issue too, but if not, are you able to share just the specific MultiPoly tool that's giving you trouble? You can do this by copy/pasting it into a text editor, or right-clicking on the node and choosing Settings -> Save As.

Hi Ben

DaVinci Resolve should not differ from Fusion Studio in node handling. Can you add a comp example and point out the difference in behavior?

Thanks
Shrinivas

Hi Shrinivas,
I made a new post about the wireless node to keep this clean.

I was able to get the project done in time.

Cool, thanks for fixing that outer polyline issue!
As for the MultiPoly, here is the link.

I will say, I've updated to the latest Davinci release and have not been able to replicate the crash anymore. It may have been fixed! Either way, thank you for being so responsive. I absolutely love DaVinci Resolve

Hi

The new 19.1.1 should have a fix for this.
