Audio always desyncs in render after updating to 19.1

PostFri Nov 15, 2024 6:00 pm

I made a project in 19.0.3. Everything rendered out fine. Fusion animation, color grades, audio. Everything. I updated the project to 19.1. All I needed to do was add 8 seconds of black at the front and end of the video. I did that, rendered it out, and watched it back, only to find out that the video lags behind the audio by about a second, despite everything being lined up in the timeline.

I have tried disabling all fusion animations, removing all b-roll, and removing the color grade on the main footage. I upgraded my driver to the latest version (Nvidia studio driver 566.14). I tried moving my project to a new timeline. Nothing will sync the audio with the video.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is this just an issue with upgrading a project from 19.0.3 to 19.1?

some computer specs:
cpu: Intel i7-8700k
gpu: 1660ti
ram: 16GB

Edit: Should've put this originally, but I was rendering in MP4 format, H.264 codec, and NVIDIA encoder.

Not that it should matter, but how did you add the 8 seconds of black at the beginning?

Do you render into a GOP codec? If so, try DNxHR or Cineform and check if the issue persists.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I've only exported one video whose project was created before 19.1. H.264 source to H.265 encode.

No issues with sound.

I simply added an 8 second long solid color generator to the beginning and end.

So, try another codec.

Hi,
I have the same problem with a freshly made new video clip. Everything is in sync inside Davinci resolve, but when exported to the youtube format, the audio is out of sync in the generated mp4.
I made the test with an older video clip I made under DR 19.0.2 and already rendered without any problem in the youtube format in DR 19.0.2. Now with DR 19.1 and the same settings, the audio is out of sync.
No framerate error in the render settings, no other error in my settings. The fact is: it was working before, and it's not working anymore with DR 19.1 . So it's a bug which has to be fixed.
Well, using an other codec is not a solution. We need those default render settings to work correctly.
So now, I roll back to DR 19.0.3 hoping I won't have this problem with that version, and gonna wait for a new DR version without that bug...

Update:
I just made a test with DR 19.0.3, same project, same render settings and the result is perfect, audio and video perfectly in sync.
So it's really a bug in 19.1

Though I always render to h265 UHD as a .mov file for YouTube, I just tested an h264 UHD .mp4 render. No sync issues at all. This is in Resolve Studio 19.1. So no "bug" seen here. ;)
Oh, and there is no "YouTube Format" per se, as all these are accepted by YT.

I believe there is another thread in this issue. Seemed to be a problem only for the native Windows media player. Other players had the audio in sync without issue.

Does that apply for you as well?

Hey everyone thanks for this thread!

For me I have a project that was shot in 4K on iPhone and used external audio Tascam DR-05 recorder using a comica wireless mic that is approximately 2 hours in length. When previously doing similar projects over the last 6 weeks or so using the same edit techniques using Resolve 19.0 I had no issues with audio in sync when playing back video exported H264 mp4 5000kb/s when playing in Windows media player Windows 10. However as mentioned here since I just upgraded to Resolve 19.1, when playing the render in Windows Media Player the audio is out of sync.

Playing back the the video using VLC or within a Firefox browser the audio is perfect.

So my question is why is the audio in sync on Resolve 19.0 but now not with 19.1. I know now thanks to this thread as a work around I can play it back successfully using a player other than Windows Media Player but something must have changed with Resolve 19.1 in relation to how Windows Media Player plays the rendered H264 mp4 file.

Thanks again to all for creating and discussing this topic
Kindest Regards

The team is on this. For now, just don't use the native Windows player.
