DR Long Time Issue - Media Mngt of Duel Cards

PostMon Nov 18, 2024 11:56 am

I have had this issue for several years.
When shooting on Duel Cards, and then using Media Management to copy used clips I have an issue.
Firstly, the Duel Card recording has worked very well... the problem looks to be with Media Management.

I have always ran into problems and now I think I have found a work around and maybe an indicator as to what to fix. Something definitely needs fixing in the code.

What I now have noticed is that the clips after Media Management play back at twice speed.

What I did was to change in Clip Attributes the fps to double... in this case from 30fps to 60fps.

The clips (set at 60fps) in the timeline (set to 30fps) now play as they should after conform.

If I switch back to the original 30fps clips and conform, they play as they should.
If I switch back to the Media Managed clips set to 60fps and conform, the play as they should... both are in a 30fps timeline.

I do not know if further issue might arise from this so am still not using Media Manager... trouble is I shoot most everything in Duel Card mode. I would like to use the Media Manager to save only the portions of the clips I will use for the edit so as to save storage space. However, it seems strange to have the clips that play correct at 30fps set to 60fps (double the frame rate.)

I am confident that a fix to the code would solve this... a problem that has been overlooked for years.
Please let me know when this issue will be addressed... thanks.

Hi, bumping this so as to find out if anyone has answers or any information as to the issue... would like to get it working so as to save disk space with Media Management of Braw files.

Yeah... I'd say don't do that. Don't change speed at this point. Leave the original clips as-is on the cards, copy them (preferably with a reliable 3rd party checksum copier like ShotPut or Hedge) to a local hard drive, and then import them to Resolve. NOW, you can change the Clip Attributes to whatever speed you want within the Resolve session.

I don't know if the manual covers what the "rules" for Clip Attributes are, but this is one of those things I wouldn't touch until the files are copied and loaded into bins. Any speed-change clips are going to change timecode, so for that reason, you might need to render those in place before attempting Media Management, because that process hinges on timecode accuracy and file names.

Duel cards comes into this because they create .braw and .braw2 files (which are left as those two files but are as one file in Resolve Media.) When I use Media Management the created braw files then do not work correctly when back in Resolve.

Marc- yes, the original files are not changed... I only changed the attributes on the media clips within Resolve. The issue only arises after using Media Management to copy the braw files (only when from duel cards, ie: a .braw and .braw2 pair.)

The .braw and .braw2 files are exact duplicates? You don't need both to see the entire clip?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Beg to differ. The .braw files contain the odd number frames and the .braw2 files contain the even number frames.
