Newer GPU or older with less VRAM

Building a new 285k rig and wondering if I should wait for the 12GB 50 series around $800 or get a used 4070ti Super with 16GB, or even a 4080 when people start dumping them for cheap

Of course we won't know till the benchmarks are in but on 4k multicam BRAW timelines with little to no fusion, is the 12 to 16 jump worth an older gen?

I do want to lean into noise reduction and AI masks.

Thanks!

IMHO, better a stable solution with more VRAM than a faster one with "GPU memory full" messages.

How can I estimate the ammount of VRAM i will need for BRAW with some AI masks and denoise? I really don't mess with Fusion, but I would like to lean into the masks and I know denoise uses GPU as well

There is no formula, just a rule of thumb. For 4K media and sequence, having at least 12GB of VRAM is highly recommended. 24GB or more for 8K.

12GB opens up a lot of options. So let me ask in a different way. Is is a huge deal to get 16GB over 12GB? Or does 12GB seem like a safe place to be?

Again, that would be difficult to answer without knowing which sources you use, on which timeline size, what ratio of temporal NR you need, yadda, yadda. 12GB should suffice for most.
More is better here, but buy the most VRAM your budget allows. Or get a Mx Mac, where memory is more expensive, but its use is much more flexible.

Gotcha. Thanks.

If the detail helps venture a slightly more educated guess here you go. I am filming 5 cam 4k BRAW at highest or second to highest compression ratios. The timeline will be 4k as I am sure 1080p would be no problem so no need to ask. The noise reduction is whatever is needed, but ideally I would like to know I don't have to worry about playback when I am setting it to it's sweet spot for the shot. I can turn it off after I am done and move onto other aspects. Like the new AI masks. I would love to be able to easily select a subject and grade with realtime playback. Well, I am sure that isn't enough info but maybe u can take another stab at it to humor me, because 12GB means 5070 if you trust the rumors, and 16GB means 5080.

Realtime for all the demanding features in DR would not even be possible with a 4090. But if those 5 cameras are for multicam, better get the most you can afford.
And don’t forget power consumption of the fast cards.

Yes. It is a multicam edit. I have an old as dirt system that gives me realtime if I set the project to 1080 while I edit. I switch it to 4k to check and render.

Let me ask this, do we know if the magic mask is GPU accelerated?
