monitor/tv for grading with built in speakers

PostTue Nov 26, 2024 2:36 pm

HI looking to replace my ageing iMac 5k and considering MacBook m4 pro laptop to a low cost monitor/tv for basic grading of corporate and event videos from davinci resolve. Rather not spend additional money on external speakers at this moment , but most recommended monitors either have reviews saying terrible sound or not even sure they have speakers, anyone got any suggestions?

There isn't much out there with internal speakers that will sound good. External desk speakers need only cost you $100 or $200 -- I'd vote for going in that direction.

BTW, I'm kind of shocked by how good the sound is on the MacBook Pro laptops. I used several different external speakers for years with my MacBooks (going back decades), but starting with the M1 Max, I gave up and just listen to the laptop speakers. I think it's good for casual use, but I wouldn't use it for a final mix.

This might interest you.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
