Full Screen UI Doesn't Fit On Screen

PostTue Nov 26, 2024 9:28 pm

Hey all,

I recently updated to 19.1, and ever since then, the window of Davinci Resolve itself is not complying with the size of my macbook monitor. I had no issues with this before the update, but I can't seem to find anyone else who's having the same problem. Attached are screenshots. Notice the right side of the UI overflows off screen. When I change Davinci to "windowed" it will SOMETIMES correctly adhere to the monitor size. But if it doesn't, I can't even resize it down further to fit.

DR works best with 2560 x 1440 or more.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

His screenshot is 2880x1800.

His screenshot, yes. That's the native number of pixels, but that resolution would become unreadable if used for native display.
I run my 16" internal screen at 1728 by 1117, and that's already pretty small for the text in DR. Native 2056 x 1329 would become unreadable for anybody without eagle eyes.
@Carter:
Of course, I can't exclude there's a bug, but first I'd like to know the resolution it's set for.

Maybe Mac works differently than PC but I’ve never been able to capture a higher-than-actual set resolution screenshot.

I'm not getting that on a 16" MacBook Pro set to the default 1728x1117 sizing (from OSX Sonoma 14.7.1). What specific screen size do you have, and what resolution are you running?

I can say I experienced some weirdness with Resolve 19 on my main system, with two 27" 2560x1550 displays, mainly in trying to hide/get rid of Resolve scopes. Something did change in the way they did full-screen display (green button ("Enter Full Screen" OS window button). I beat on it for a few days, and eventually it seemed to settle down. My situation was compounded with the fact that I use multiple desktops so I can take notes and upload/download/copy files in the background, but it's all fine now.

You're right, Ben, I switched to a QHD screen recently, which I run in native resolution. So, I assumed the wrong thing.
But then I wonder how that screenshot was taken, since Carter wrote he's using 1728 by 1117.
@Carter
Even if it's too small, can you check if the issue is gone at a higher resolution? BM is definitely simplifying the GUI at resolutions like 1920 by 1080, maybe at yours too. You could also try a simple GUI reset (Workspace menu).

Thank you all for your help.

I am running a 13" macbook running Sonoma. The monitor's native resolution is 1440x900. DR does fit into full screen if I change my resolution to 1680x1050, the only higher option available in my system preferences. But that resolution does make things unbearably small.

I also often run a secondary display, a 24" Dell monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1440. DR fits on this one flawlessly at it's native resolution, so that's my current workaround.

See my other reply for more detail, but changing the resolution did allow for DR to fit into fullscreen. I also tried a GUI reset but to no avail.

Well, probably the default, not the native pixels. But at that resolution, BM is definitely simplifying the GUI in DR.

I would say that realistically, Resolve will not work well on a 13" display. My advice is to only use the 24" Dell display for GUI.

I seem to recall that Resolve's minimum display resolution is 1680x1050, but realistically I think you need at least 1920x1080 or higher for best results. And we routinely use 2560x1550, which I think is fairly optimum.
