Fusion shortcut conflicting with Windows 11

Hi,

I’m experiencing an issue that’s been quite frustrating.

In Davinci Resolve Fusion, the spline editor has a shortcut to nudge a keyframe by one frame:
Alt + WinKey + Arrow

This works perfectly on Windows 10, but on Windows 11, it’s unusable because the OS reserves that key combination for changing the window layout.

I used this shortcut extensively on Windows 10, and it’s a key part of my workflow. I’d greatly appreciate it if the developers could consider providing an alternative or a fix for this issue.

Interesting. I didn't know about that shortcut. As a side node. Try to use arrow keys and ALT and SHIFT etc on the right side of the keyboard.

It would seem;

Alt + WinKey + Arrow nudges keyframe left or right.

Alt + CTRL + Arrow nudges by subframe

Alt + SHIFT + Arrow nudges by by ten frames.

Interestingly I could not find it in the keyboard shortcuts. As if its undocumented.

Found this old thread: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=96726

Anyway, not sure how to change it in resolve, but you might be able to change it for windows.

With PowerToys. Maybe you can use that.

I’ve already tried using PowerToys, but it refuses to execute that keyboard shortcut, no matter what I do. It seems like the combination is reserved by the operating system. I’ve also tested other software, such as Blender, and they won’t register the Win + Alt + Arrow shortcuts either.

This problem is only present on Windows 11

What about right ALT + Arrow keys? For the spline editor. Have you tried that?

Neither, I have tried a lot of combinations, and non of them works.

If I could assign that shortcut to another key that would be the solution but not all Fusion shortcuts can be customized. It's a shame

The Windows key is not available to us in Keyboard Customization.

Odd that BMD would use it.

I didn't even know about that shortcut myself. Maybe its a leftover from fusion studio before Blackmagic bought it. There is a "Meta" + Alt or something in the keyboard shorcuts dialog box. But I am not sure what "meta" represents. Do you know? Is that a code word for Windows key? Or something else? If so, what is it?

I don't see a Meta. I see the Windows key icon between Ctrl and Alt, but it's grayed out and inaccessible.

It works for me. Are you saying that ALT + Arrow yes, the right side ALT or SHIFT or CTRL and arrow keys in spline editor do absolutely nothing? That is very strange.

This is what it shows for me. Does anyone have a clue what "Meta" means?

Code: Select all
Note
Not all keyboards have a META key.

On Windows the META key is the Window (⊞) key.

On Mac machines the META key is the Cmd (⌘) key.

Thanks Andy.

Chat AI thingy gave me this answer, I was not sure if its accurate.

Meta in DaVinci Resolve

In DaVinci Resolve keyboard shortcuts, “Meta” refers to a specific key on the keyboard.

On a Mac, the Meta key is the Command (⌘) key.

On a PC, the Meta key is the Control (Ctrl) key or the Windows (Win) key, depending on the context and the specific shortcut.

In general, when you see “Meta” in a DaVinci Resolve keyboard shortcut, it means you should press the Command key on a Mac or the Control key (or Windows key) on a PC, in combination with the other keys specified in the shortcut.

Haha. Seems appropriately vague enough.

Now the question is on windows how does one assign windows or meta key to a shortcut. When its pressed it opens start menu on windows, not registered in the keyboard shortcut dialog box.

Inside the spline editor:

Shift + Arrow keys: The time ruler jumps between the first and last frame of the composition.
Ctrl + Arrow keys: Jumps between the first and last frame of the render range.
Alt + Arrow keys (Left/Right): Currently does nothing.

My desired shortcut:
I’d like to use Win + Alt + Left/Right arrow keys or another alternative to nudge my keyframes by one frame. This would make adjusting keyframes more efficient and intuitive.

It can be done in Windows 10, but Windows 11 is preventing the use of that shortcut.

Have you selected the desired keyframe before pressing the shortcuts? Inside the spline editor yes. And have you used the ALT + ARROW on the right side, meaning not the left but the right ALT key? It should move keyframe by sub-frames ir what they call in-between-frames, 1/10 I think.

I am on windows 10 so I can't check for Windows 11, but I find it bizarre that you can't change windows shortcuts by any method. You must be doing something wrong. Try again. Find a better method.
