Timeline resolution settings

PostSat Nov 30, 2024 1:31 pm

Can anyone explain what the distinction is between the timeline resolution box and the 2 boxes underneath?

I have my timeline set to 1920x1080 for editing, then before delivering I change it back to ultra 4k. If I were to keep the 1920 selection in the top box, but keep the 3840 and 2160 in the 2 boxes below, does that mean it will play back in 1920 but deliver in 4k? im just trying to cut out another step. if this doesnt work the way im explaining, there must be a difference in these boxes?

Errr.. The dropdown is a list of commonly used resolutions. Selecting one from the dropdown menu fills in the "for ABC x DEF processing" inputs.
Changing a number in the "for " boxes forces the dropdown to Custom.

The short version is that the "for ABC x DEF processing" boxes are the ones that matter and what Davinci uses in the actual computation.

Timeline resolution: drop down list is just list of presets.

For Processing:
is the format used as reference for timeline resolution while working/processing.

Use Vertical Resolution: is swap of aspect ratio and also automatically switches mismatch resolution mode from default Scale Entire Image to Fit into Scale full frame with crop, to save you that step.

But all these can be changed as you work, just keep in mind what happens to output resolution and mismatched resolution features which will impact obviously output resolution and clip resolution and how does it interact with format or working resolution of the timeline. By default output juts mirrors working resolution on the timeline, but they can be different, so keep that in mind. Same is true for mismatch resolution which can impact how clips are handles as you change working timeline resolution.
