Playhead Stuttering when Audio Scrubbing On (macOS)

I have a Macbook Pro M1 Pro base 14" laptop (2021) using Resolve Free version. I am not connected to any Blackmagic Thunderbolt devices, just using the built-in audio.
When I scrub through the timeline, from time to time the playhead stutters - it's not smooth. The only way for me to resolve the issue is by turning off "Audio Scrubbing."
*However* - when I connect my Blackmagic 4K Mini via Thunderbolt cable and select that as an audio source, I can audio scrub and move the playhead very smoothly.
Is this just a limitation of the software or does my laptop have a defect?
