Recommended CPU for Davinci

PostMon Dec 30, 2024 6:31 am

I'm planning on upgrading my older i9 9900k CPU soon.
I work mainly with 4k H.265 10bit 422 files and I think I could really benefit from Quicksync.
What do you think about the new intel 285k? Is it worth the 240$ difference (in my country) from the 265k?
My rig is RTX 4090, im upgrading now from 32gb ddr4 to 96gb ddr5 6000mhz, windows 11 pro
Thanks in advance

Any Intel CPU with QuickSync version 7 or later supports H.265 10-bit 422. So for desktop that's 11th gen CPUs or later, provided you get a version with an internal GPU. For QuickSync to work, the iGPU has to be enabled in the BIOS (but don't select it as a GPU in Resolve).

Since you have a 9th generation CPU with the LGA1151 socket today, you'll need a new motherboard.

If all you need is modern QuickSync and your existing case/motherboard has room, you could add any cheap Intel Arc GPU instead in addition to your 4090 and use it just for QuickSync.
