Resolve Project server access broken in Sequoia

PostWed Mar 12, 2025 4:22 pm

For anyone experiencing DB server access woes when using Mac.

Had been unable to access my project server since installing Sequoia 15.3.1. No changes to network environment or DB config. Both machines on same subnet, can ping each other, in terminal can run nc -vz [DB IP] 5432 and it connects fine, but it will never connect to DB server inside the software.

This appears to be down to Apple's integration of "Local Network" app permission. Even though Resolve is listed as an app that has permission for this, it is blocking psql traffic. Workarounds are:

1) Turn the Privacy & Security > Local Network > DaVinci Resolve setting off and on (works instantly, doesn't survive reboot)
2) Run Resolve from the terminal - /Applications/DaVinci\ Resolve/DaVinci\ Resolve.app/Contents/MacOS/Resolve (doesn't need to be super user/elevated privileges)

@BMD - apologies if I'm the only person to run into this. It's been doing my nut for about 3 weeks.

Resolve Studio 19.1.3
MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1

This has recently come up for a few people.

Are you sure your Option 1 doesn't survive a reboot? That was the dev team suggestion to fix the issue. If it really doesn't survive a reboot, that's annoying. Since it's a reboot/restart scenario that causes the issue.

I've been unable to recreate this scenario with a Sequoia 15.3.1 Mac here in the office. Makes it hard to troubleshoot solutions. Must not be happening to all users. Making it even more annoying.

Had a user today report that changing the Network Location setting also allows connection to PostgreSQL, but also doesn't survive a reboot.

Just to add, for the 2 users I've heard from with this issue, their initial solution was a Resolve reinstall. That also allows connection to PostgreSQL. Until the next restart. For a customer that turns off their systems at night, having to reinstall Resolve the next day to regain access to Network project libraries is annoying.

Tested it again this morning just to be 100% sure, on my system it doesn't survive a reboot.

Method 2 doesn't require the switching off and on of the Local Network setting after reboot.

I thought it was, but it's not! I'm so sorry for the bad information. Same workarounds as before still apply.

Interesting. I passed that suggestion along to another customer with the issue, and they indeed confirmed it solved the problem for them.

Ciao Dwaine,
