Can anyone tell me how I can get it to work?
It’s a real, bought version of Studio and I’d like to get it working.
Thanks

You downloaded the wrong version. Download the Studio version.

Download the Studio version?
Of course I downloaded the Studio version.
The non-Studio version doesn’t need any validation. I’m asking about how I can use my license key to validate Da Vinci Resolve Studio 19.
My code is for 18.5 but I was lead to understand, from reading this forum, that it would still work for 19.

Can anyone help.

Did you purchase from an authorized reseller? Or somewhere like e-Bay?

BMD is constantly nullifying phony dongles. I wonder if you got a forged code?

Not via eBay. Purchased by an education establishment through conventional and accountable purchasing procedure

If you had the Studio version installed then tried to install the Free version on top of it, then it will do this.

Make sure you downloaded the Studio version.

There is no "of course" about it. The number of times Studio users pick up the free version upgrade from the support site is quite common. Other than the BMD fan-boys most people say that support page is very badly designed.

I have found in the past a complete reboot has been required. Rather a shut down and restart, not a warm restart on the occasions it hasn't found the license. That hasn't happened recently so what ever the problem was, for me, has gone away with windows and or Resolve updates, or a combination of both.

Thank you. Ok, my mistake, sorry for sounding impatient.
I did initially download the free version by mistake and install it. It obviously just opens with no need to enter the code. But then, realising I was looking at the free version I uninstalled it using the uninstall app, then downloaded Studio. But I’ve since tried to authenticate Studio (I’ve shut down the Mac and restarted it) and it still gives me the message I’ve quoted.

Should I do something like get rid of cookies? Or do I need to uninstall Studio and reinstall it?

[edit to clarify I know the diff between free and Studio]

Is a VPN involved here? There have been forum discussions about some VPNs causing problems.

A VPN is involved, yes! It’s the only way I can connect (it’s a security-related issue).
I can’t get round that. Is there a solution?

As a VPN can be configured in a vastly different ways, no one will be able to say exactly how many o help your situation. You might need to talk to your IT admins about the matter.
They might not allow certain outside communications.

If so a hardware dongle is what you need.

Correct. IT may be blocking network ports for security reasons. Resolve might be unable to communicate properly with BM's authentication server because those ports are being blocked.

Not disagreeing, and VNP's along with AV SW cause a lot of obscure problems, but how often does Resolve phone home to check the licence?

Yeah. Seriously.

BMD specifically has the dongle for studios that can't access the outside world. Unless your IT department relents, that's you. ;)

It check way more than any IT person will ever like to allow, from what i can remember when i looked in to it, it checks every time you load the program or a new project

That can't be right as laptops may not be connected to the internet.
Just tested it by disconnecting this laptop, firing up Resolve V20 PB1 and a project. No problem.
Just reconnected to edit this email.

Thank you.
I see the way forward as:
At the workplace, using a wired connection to the network rather than the VPN that the laptop uses by default, try authorising the application and hope it goes through.
I’m back there in 2 weeks so will try that then.
If it doesn’t work I’ll uninstall then reinstall Studio, then try the strategy above.
Buying a dongle for £300 isn’t an option for my employer and I won’t spend that myself as this is a work tool.
Thanks everyone.
