UI suggestion: move scope settings window lower

PostTue Apr 08, 2025 1:26 pm

Version: DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 Public Beta 1

Issue (See Photo): When you click the 3-sliders button on the scopes window to open up individual scope settings, the settings window opens above the button, out of frame, leaving it inaccessible.

Having the window positioned below the settings button instead of above would solve the issue. Then again, a lower position would partially block the scopes, and I'm sure there is somebody out there that likes to see the entire scope window while they're changing the settings.

I can't reproduce this.

Studio 20b1 for Windows.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I see this too in large scopes view. The scope settings window is appearing above the top of the scope window so it is off screen. If you click on the settings window it does allow you to drag it onto the screen properly. Also the 4x1 icon is highlighted all the time which might be a contributing factor..

If you select a lower scope the settings do not go off screen.

Oh, I think I misunderstood the issue. Charles explanation helped.

Seems to me your Scopes window is simply too high up in the GUI, Tony. Move it down.

Having a high res monitor (UHD) also helps here. (More room on screen.)

The trouble is it doesn't automatically move to the side when the scopes occupy most of the screen unless you click on it and move it sideways by the smallest amount.
I've done that here. I think it might be related to the vertical 4x1 setting being highlighted all the time.

In beta 2 build 27, this menu problem still exists (Windows). The suggestions to move/resize windows to avoid it do work for now, but this is a UI bug (and I don't believe this was a problem in v19). Pop-up menus in Windows are supposed to shift themselves appropriately to ensure that they are visible in the available screen real-estate.

Oh, I wanted to mention that I do not see the 4x1 always highlighted as noted above.

In the original docked position of the scopes, popping them "up" is typically fine, but once the scopes are popped out (and typically moved to another screen), it's a problem:

Settings menu does not reposition and is clipped when window is near the top of the screen

This is completely unrelated but I have to thank the dev team as I just tripped on this little gem:

Thank you!

It would be a *MASSIVE* help if the detached Scopes window could scale to full-screen (when using them exclusively on a dedicated secondary monitor) or if we could just resize it to fit different window sizes.

Thanks for the continuous efforts on improving the software!
