it just freezes on the start screen on 'Loading Projects' every other time I try to open it.


i have to abort the process via Windows Task Manager and start again.
is that something with my PC, or a Resolve bug?

I think that happens to everyone, but if it happens frequently you might have a problem.

What will infrequently happen is I click the Resolve icon do other things while it's loading, notice it's not running, click thumbnail again, still nothing, then look for the resolve process, shut it down, and now Resolve will run.

IF you have 1000 LUTs AND your panel goes out often (either disconnect or remote panel scripting), it does freeze on the startup page for a while.

but eventually it goes if you let it sit.

I've been getting this too since maybe 19.1. In Studio in Windows 11. It hangs but it loads eventually. Could it have to so something with cloud DB although I'm not using it at all? Could it have to do with unmounted SMB shares in Windows? I haven't looked at the log or troubleshooted this in any way yet.

several minutes. sometimes, I switch to other windows and after an hour realize Resolve never loaded

What kind of Library are you using? Local, Network, Cloud?

What's your storage arrangement?

Are any VPN's (or other security software) in use?

also, do you have smaller databases or you have a single monster database that was updated several times?
do you have scores of timelines?

It never happend with me since I started using Resolve v10 until v20 and it is not supposed to happen to anyone unless something is wrong with the hardware, configuration or settings.

Local library.
Windows and Resolve on an SSD. Project library on HDD
D:\Google Drive\projects\Resolve Project Library

No VPN. only Windows Defender

Single database, updated several times.

Ahhh.

Don't do that. Use online services like Dropbox, One Drive, Google Drive, etc only for file transfer. Always move files out of those folders before using them in Resolve.

But what if my disk crashes and i lose all the projects?

You manually create Library and Project backups. Those can go to Google Drive.

1) put your database on an internal fast drive
2) in your settings ask to backup the project every 30 minutes or so in a google drive

Also you can select multiple prophecy and export them for a quick snapshot
