Use consolidated media as new reference sources in the activ

PostThu Apr 10, 2025 2:11 pm

Hi.
Subject: Use consolidated media as new reference sources in the active project.

Objective:
To enable Resolve, after consolidating media with “Copy selected shots to folder”, to:

Automatically link consolidated files to existing timelines,

Or propose an easy relink to the consolidated files (without having to create a new project or XML/AAF).

My case:
I experimented with the case of insufficient memory (local and external ssd). I wanted to gradually import 4K videos from a multicam sports challenge (3 SD cards), which is over 50 GB in size.
The choice of optimized media or proxies doesn't seem at all appropriate to me, as a 3GB source file already in mp4 (h265) will only be slightly compressed.
I've ordered a new ssd but in the meantime my other external ssd's are full as well as the one on my MBpro.
For each lens I selected the desired shots and as soon as I finished with a lens I wanted to copy them to a local folder and I expected to be able to use this folder as the main source instead of the SDCard. Except I learn that this copy is not at all intended to do what I want.

Request:
Would it be possible to allow the use of selected plans copied into a folder in place of the source files?
I've read that there are solutions for my case, but they seem too complicated: XML export of the timeline.

I'm not entirely sure I follow what you're doing here.

But I am absolutely certain that the best approach to what you're doing is to work on a desktop with sufficient internal Media drives.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
