Word Highlight in subtitles in Resolve 20

PostFri Apr 11, 2025 2:39 pm

I tried this the way this Mr Alex Tech tutorial showed me,
but it does not work very well (yet)
I made a (Dutch) subtitle, but the were some mistakes made.
No problem you think. Just change the text till it is right.
I did, but in the video nothing changed.
See the attachment.
Is it a bug? (betaversion) or did I do something wrong?

Having the same issue.

I tried editing the subtitle file in an online editor but in that case the subtitles don't show up at all with the Highlight animation.

Hope they fix this, it would be so useful.

I did a Polish AI transcription (beta language) for a 50 second video - it was spot on with every word resolved correctly. Impressive!

However, using the Animated Subtitles feature resulted in a strange issue that made some words highlighted not correctly (first letter missing, highlight overlapping on the next word).

As said before, any changes made to the subtitles were not reflected once the animated subtitles were engaged.

Im also polish speaker and I have exactly same subtitle bad behaviour as my predecessor said. Some words are not correctly highlighted at right moment, some words are splitted, some words in animation even skipped or animated way too fast. Unusable at this moment.

In other hand autodescription is good and fast, and rendering time is great.
I know you "killed" nice plugin for animated captions CaptionCat but you really need to look how and what the autor did good. There you can move each word exactly when you want to highlight it, and everything is smooth animated into one fusion composition. But in contrast rendering time is waay longer.

There is something more. If I use AI describe at media pool->timeline->AI tools->Describe and open window with described audio, words here are correctly highlighted and I can select other word, but it is still wrong highlighted at subtitle video track.

It looks like in beta 3 problem with polish animated subtitles is solved. :!:
On my short clip there was no mistakes both in timing or spelling. Editing subtitle also update visible text, but it isn't clear for me, how to adjust timing in case of mistakes? Using Media Bin->PPM on Timeline->AI Tools->Audio transcription->Transcribe opens window, but with completely different, gibberish text (looks like AI tried to use english language but audio was polish).
Rendering is super-fast, almost not adding time at all (3 sec longer rendering time on 1:12 long movie).

Now, make builtin subtitles even more customizable, and of course more presets :D
But overall, very nice! Great job.

Thank you for a rapid fix of this issue!

There’s one subtle problem that still occurs during AI transcription, both in Polish and English: dangling function words at the end of lines.

These are usually short words (1 to 5 characters), such as conjunctions, pronouns, determiners, etc.

A universal consensus was reached that in movie subtitles, such orphaned words — especially those that begin a new sentence clause — should be avoided and moved to another line.

This also aligns with the natural rhythm of spoken language as we rarely start a new thought or a sentence and then pause after saying the first word (but then again, pause detection in BMD's transcribe feature works pretty good!).

Currently, the transcription behaves like this:
[SUBTITLE 1]
Although it was raining, we

[SUBTITLE 2]
went outside.

while it should look create something like that:
[SUBTITLE 1]
Although it was raining,

[SUBTITLE 2]
we went outside.

Thank you once again for adding this feature as it is immensely helpful and saves a lot of time already!
