[Solved] Sync’ing Multicam and a separate Green screen

Hi,

I volunteer at a church where we have recently switched to multi-cam recording of our service.

Alongside footage from the service I also record a green screen output that includes screen bugs, lyric overlays etc. All the footage is recorded with the same timecode embedded, which has been great for sync’ing the camera footage.

However, when I sync the camera footage it resets the timecode, meaning I then can’t align it on a timeline and sync it with the green screen footage (I then use the delta keyer to remove the green leaving only the words).

How can I keep the original timecode in the multi-cam footage so I can then sync it in the timeline with other assets?

Thanks,

What steps are you taking here?

Sorry, this week has been really busy with work and now the long weekend. I've only thought of this as I'm sitting down to edit another video.

Having brought all the clips into the media bin, I will select the four that I want to merge into a multi-cam footage. In the cut pane, I click on the sync icon in the top left and select to sync via timeline. This then creates a new multi-cam clip with a timecode starting at 01:00:00:00 instead of keeping the same timecode as the source clips.

Creating a timeline from multicam & green screen clip means I can't then sync the two using the timecode as they are now way out.

Above is a screen shot of the media bin after I've created the multicam clip, as you can see it's timecode is completely different to all the other clips. Ideally, I'd like to put the multicam clip and the HDR90_C_Live... onto the same timeline, sync them via timecode, use the delta keyer to remove the green element of the green screen and just get to business of choosing the best angle for that particular moment of the video.

Ahhh. I'm afraid I don't use the Cut page. (Just not a fan.)

Someone else more familiar with its operations may be needed to help here.

Just in case someone comes across this in the future, I have found the solution.

Having made the multicam clip, the fix is to go to the edit panel and right click on the multicam clip and select to change the starting timecode. You can then correct the timecode by entering the earliest timecode of the footage you just sync'd.

Then when you have multiple clips on the timeline you can select all of them and right-click and select to "align clips" and do so by timecode.
