Any Update on User Button Mapping for the Micro Color Panel?

Hi everyone,

I purchased the DaVinci Resolve Micro Color Panel when it was first released. At the time, it was mentioned that user button mapping would be added in a future update—possibly with Resolve 19 or shortly after.

Now we’re in the Resolve 20 beta, several months down the line, and there’s still no sign of user button mapping. The firmware is still at version 2.2, and there’s been no communication from Blackmagic about this feature.

Did they abandon the idea entirely? Has anyone heard anything or have any insight?

There are also User Buttons on the Resolve Mini Panel, introduced back in April 2017. And the Advanced Panels have had a "Macro" button for more than 15 years. As far as I know, there still isn't a way to use them as user-programmable buttons just yet.

That's discouraging, Marc, particularly since the custom button on the micro color panel was promoted by BMD as a selling point of this new panel. Oh well - now that the code has been rewritten, maybe they'll be able to free up some development time for this. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I’m with you—it’s definitely frustrating, especially since that custom button was highlighted as a selling point. I reached out to BMD support to see if there was any update, but the response was pretty vague. Here’s what they said:

“Currently you are still not able to bind that specific button to any functions, but as outlined in the manual for the product the function is still marked as reserved for future use.”

So unfortunately, still no concrete plans or timeline. Like you mentioned, with all the other developments happening, it’s hard to say if they’ll actually circle back to this. It’s a shame—having that user button functional would be a really useful addition.

Fingers crossed they don’t just leave it permanently “reserved.”
