How to import DJI Pocket 3 videos to Davinci Resolve?

PostSun Apr 20, 2025 7:35 am

Hello. I'm very new to this. I got my first camera this week, a DJI Pocket 3. In my excitement, I went ahead and even got a new computer just so I can learn to color grade and make beautiful videos. The problem is, I have no idea how to import videos from the DJI Pocket 3 to the Davinci Resolve app. I want to also mention that the Davinci Resolve 20 app I downloaded looks different from all of the youtube videos I've seen. I'm on Windows, but I don't see the top row of buttons such as "File" "edit" "trim" Timeline" "clip", etc. On my screen, the top row only gives me the option of "Local", "Network", and "cloud". Then it asks about Projects. Then at the bottom it gives the option for export and import.

When I click on "import", it asks me to select a folder. i select the folder that I moved the DJI Pocket 3 videos to but nothing shows up in the folder when accessing it from "import". The video files are in MP4. I read online to download and use Shutter Encoder app to convert the video files to DNxHR. I've done it, now the end of the videos are .mov. However, I'm still unable to import any videos to Davinci Resolve. None of the videos show up in the folder when I hit import.

I'm sure this is some silly noob issue, but I've spent hours agonizing over this before coming to this forum. If anyone has any help. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you. Please explain it all to me like you would a baby, because i'm really that lost.

Before starting to import Media you have to open a new project.
What you are seeing is the Project Manager.
Just make a new project, don't import anything here.

Unless you want to learn the new features in 20 you're better off with the last stable 19 release.

1) Create a new Project of the appropriate resolution and frame rate.
2) on the Media page, add your video clips to the media pool
3) on the Cut or Edit page, add your clips to a timeline and create your video masterpiece.

Watching some Intro to Resolve vids on Youtube or making use of the Black Magic training will speed your progress greatly.

Have you had a chance to do any training for Resolve yet, Del? I do believe the training books are the very best place for all new users to start. ;)

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If you recorded in 10 bit in the camera, yes the files will need to be transcoded to DnxHR HQX to be opened in resolve free on Windows. On Mac this is not necessary.

Otherwise the DNXHR files should work just like any other. If you drag one onto a blank timeline in the edit tab, what happens? It should just work.
