Because Undo do not always work, I will go with versions strategy to be in the safe side. Now, for new versions, should I duplicate the timeline, duplicate the whole project from Media Manager or do something else? And what are the pros and cons of each method?

I am specially interested with one that do not require re-caching.

Personally, I duplicate the timeline, disable the dupe and put it in a versions bin.
Fwiw, although its not what you're asking, I also export my working project as a time and date stamped DRP at the end of each day... I rarely, if ever, need them, but I like to know they are there.

I do this too. Though I don’t generally disable the timelines. I do wonder how much resources an unopened but not disabled timeline uses.

What is a dupe?

There's also the fact that all enabled timelines are listed in the Viewer panel's drop-down timelines menu, Joe. As much as possible, I prefer to see only my active working timelines in that menu.

The problem with both duplicating a timeline and a project is that it requires re-caching which does not make sense to me!
Resolve should not re-cache if nothing is changed, and re-cache only what changed, but that is not the case.

For me, the dupe is a backup, just in case I need to recover something/revert. Both unlikely. On the off-chance that I do need to bring something back from an earlier cut then I have no problem recaching that section. I don't need to be clogging up my system with duplicated caches unnecessarily. Ymmv.

Re-caching happens to all clips in the timeline, not just a section .. and this can be time consuming.

I know how it works, Yasser, I'm just saying that's a non-issue for me as the versioned backup is there just in case of the very unlikely event that I need to recover something (which I can then splice back in to the working version) ... the only thing I potentially need to recache is the bit I recover. I'm perfectly happy with that. There are a great many other things that I would fight for long, long, long before I'd give a hoot about occasionally re-caching temp files.

As someone started above, I duplicate timeline
1) duplicate timeline
2) dusable the copy and put it in a old place
3) i put in the timeline name a version e01c01 where every time they're is a duplication, the numbers go up, if i di editing, the e01 become e02, if I'm doing color, c01 become c02, so i have track of what I did in the last dupe.

Because you keep working on the original, cache does not break
