Still on Studio 18.6.6 Build 7

Hello Davinci Team:

First, I love your software. Worth every dime. Thank you for all you do.

However, I just want to mention I'm still on Studio 18.6 because it's been the only stable version that gives me no errors. All through version 19 and then in Version 20, I kept hitting roadblocks that just scuttled projects along the way and I was hoping there could be some resolution. Plus I'm so tired of hunting for the right answer all over the place.

Early versions 19 is where it started with the inability to render anything. Even the smallest rendering of just simple photos and a little video would suddenly stall and take forever. Proxies or no.

So I went back to Build 18.6 until that got ironed out. I waited till later version 19's.

So when I did, like the most recent Version 19 before Beta 20, I suddenly got hit with these 'Media Offline' even though the media was in the media bin. Didnt even get close to seeing if the render issue was resolved. Plenty of people out there gave ways to fix it but none of them worked for me and I was running against time...so back to Version 18.6. It worked. It did what I needed.

Recently, I said: Why not try Version Beta 20. Certainly it fixed the issues, right?

Nope...."media offline." still.

So back to Version 18.6

I totally get that you guys bust your ass to provide such superior software. Totally get it. This is not a complaint. I also know you guys need to know what's happening out here and I'm just raising a flag to let you know some of us are having a few hiccups.

Recommendation: I would LOVE if you can allow multiple versions of Davinci Resolve on one computer without having to constantly reinstall. I know, I know. I'm crazy. Taxing on the Windows eco-system. Things will drag and grind to a halt ... but I can have multiple versions of Adobe After Effects for various reasons and plugins.... Just would be great if Version 25 of Davinci Resolve has some issues, all I have to do is close it...kick on Version 21 ... and pull up copies that worked in that version...or simply start fresh without the whole re-install business.

Just a thought. I'm not bitching. Fan for life.

Corey

Good morning, Corey!

I'm sorry you're still having this problem. I had that problem, too, and I understand your frustrations!

I found the solution to that problem on YouTube, but there are two or three possible reasons why you're getting that error. I remember the one video I watched offered a solution that didn't work for me, but another one provided a different solution, and it worked.

Below are links to a bunch of these videos. I'm sorry, I don't remember which one worked for me, but I hope one of them will resolve your offline media error so you can enjoy using newer versions of DaVinci Resolve!

(same guy as prior, but in a newer version)

(same guy as prior video, but released a few days ago)

(same person as prior video, but more recent)

(same person as prior video, but a different video)

I hope at least one of these videos helps you resolve your offline media issue!

Sincerely,

Roger

Thank you so much, Roger! Truly grateful for your time and video selections.
When I get in tonight, I’ll pour over each one.

Thank you!!

Corey

We shouldn't need 87 YouTube videos to keep our media online. I did a v20 project over the weekend and I was getting constant offline notifications and render fails. I'm literally watching 100% of the media playing (well, the video...audio is f'd in v20.)

Agreed. 18.6 is the last useable version.

I don't believe your experience is the norm, Corey. So it may help to look at what's going on with your system that may be causing these issues.

If you want to go down that road, post up some details on your hardware, OS and peripherals.

I don't see that with v19. It used to happen sometimes but turned out to be a bad USB hub corrupting my clips.

As Jim says, we might need some details.

Can you make a DRA with some content to share?

Hey There Jim....

Intel Xeon CpU E5-2620 V3 @2.40Ghz (2 Processors)
Ram: 80GB
Windows 11 Pro - 24H2
465gb SSD (down to about 150GB)
NVIDA Quadro K2200

Granted, the workstation is a little dated but has been working fine up till these versions. lol...im having issues wanting to part from my 80Gs of memory when some of the newer workstations (affordable) start with 16! LOL.... I know. I know.

But all the same, my edits get near zero lag on most things but Im never doing heavy projects.

Your CPU is not on the supported list for Windows 11 and your GPU has 4GB of VRAM.

In my experience Resolve gets very upset with 4GB of VRAM unless you only do basic stuff, no more than 1080p.

I believe DR 19 got even more demanding, maybe that is why you're still on 18.

As a minimum, I'd replace the GPU with something more modern, you can get a 3050 8GB which is - according to a website - 355% faster than your Quadro.

Welp...that answers that. Thanks for your patience. I'm of the old mind of making workstations work as long as they possibly can to get work done before buying new stuff that depreciates the moment I think about buying it lol. Newer GPU has been on the radar...so now, its front row center. Thanks for the advise one and all.

No worries - you don't need the latest and greatest GPU for Resolve (as long as the latest drivers are available). But you need VRAM.

I mentioned a 3050 - which the a very basic GPU - because you can probably find it for £50 or less. nVidia 20 series is now very affordable. The 3060 12GB is a popular one as it's got more than 8GB :)

What footage are you editing? 2K or 4K?
