Paste in color page... should it affect zoom?

I shoot/edit a lot of sports.

My workflow goes like this:
1) go through all the clips in my timeline adjusting start/end, stabilization, zoom-in (dynamic with keyframes), and speed ramps. I get the CONTENT right.
2) then go through all the clips in the Color page and adjust brightness/color, etc.

In step (2) ... a LOT of clips have very similar visual appearnce... in bright sunlight, during rain, etc. So what I WANT to do is grade a clip, hit Ctl-C to copy the COLOR settings... and then paste those onto other, similar clips.

HOWEVER -- bug? -- often it seems as though this copy/paste operation ALSO changes the Zoom/Position/Stabilization settings!

I have not been able to figure out an exact repro.... but I wanted to confirm with all you experienced folk that this isn't SUPPOSED to happen? (or maybe it is? maybe a copy/paste in the Color page grabs all the "fusion" settings or something?)

thanks!

PS - I'm currently using V20 beta on Windows (ARM) ... but I've seen this happening for months across multiple versions of Resolve.

Edit page has edit sizing, color page has edit sizing, input sizing, node sizing etc. Stabilization is shared across edit and color page etc. Keyframing is separate but you can change stabilization, tracking, zoom, positioning etc in the color page. If have made changes to nodes that you copy from or if you keyframing was active during working and you made keyframes when you made adjustments than you can carry over those settings by copy and pasting attributes. But you can also copy and paste only some attributes.

You can use node graph for example, which is access by right clicking on the thumbnails in the color page. Or you can go to main menu in color page and use copy and paste attributes for only selected elements. You can also turn off keyframing, especially for sizing category, so you don't auto keyframe anything if you don't want to.

There’s a “color only” setting for copy. Unfortunately it’s not the default.

On the color page, the easiest way to copy color grades to other clips is to select all the clips you want to copy your grade to and then middle-click on the clip with the desired grade.
To copy only the color and not apply any resizing or stabilization, change the keyframe mode to “Color”:

Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for ... THANK YOU all!!

one more question (Joe -- I totally agree with you -- seems like color-only copy/paste should be the default. That's what I expected / hoped for) ... is it possible to save this Color-only mode as part of my default project settings so that all future projects will work this way?

thanks again!

OK -- I'm trying this method -- but it's still stripping out the stabilization. Do you assume this is a bug?

Repro steps:
- go into Color page, set the keyframe setting to Color (see my screenshot to confirm I've done this right)
- go to CLIP A, the "color source" clip ... one without stabilization set... and COPY the settings (Ctrl-C)
- go to CLIP B, the "destination" clip. Verify this clip ALREADY HAS PERSPECTIVE STABILIZATION SET and Paste ...

RESULT: CLIP B no longer has Perspective Stabilization. The button in the edit page is now no longer greyed out, and if you click it, it will go through the process of stabilizing and then the clip will zoom-in with the now re-added stabilization.

If you folks agree this is a bug -- should I open another thread and/or change the title of this one?

Resolve 20 Beta (R1) ... running on Windows 11 on ARM.

thx!

Good afternoon. I think, that using Lightbox on Color page, will help you a lot in your work. All your stabilisations made on the Edith page will remain intact. Everything is described in detail in the instructions for Davinci Resolve.

Don't use copy and paste - use the middle mouse button as I wrote erlier.
Copy and (a simple) paste will not take the keyframe setting
into consideration and always copy everything !
But you could copy (Ctrl+C) and paste attributes (Alt+V) to choose what to copy.
No bug !

Not everyone has a middle mouse button. Is there a mappable command in the keyboard editor that middle mouse is doing?

Since you have to click on the clip with the desired grade, the corresponding function is
Right-click > Apply Grade.
No keyboard shortcut can do this.

Sure enough -- I'm on a laptop with a trackpad... no middle mouse button. But I will try your "Apply Grade" method... THANK YOU!

And... while I'm happy to personally have a workaround... it sure does still seem to me that "copy/paste" color grades should work as a broad audience of users would expect -- and I'd call this a bug Resolve folks should fix.

1) When COLOR is explicitly selected as the keyframe mode as you indicated-- it should ONLY copy/paste color settings and leave stabilization alone. I think this is just a bug and not intended behavior. (?)

2) (more a matter of opinion) Copy/paste by default on the *color* page should probably only copy/paste *color* settings. I think most people would expect this to be the default .. and more advanced users could OPT IN to copy/pasting more than color settings if they want.

thx

Copy and paste attributes or node graph allows to copy and paste all you want. Keyframes are not on for me all the time, unless I active them. You don't need a middle mouse button to copy and apply grades, there are many ways to do it, its just the most convenient way to copy and paste grades. Unless you are doing something unusual or unaware, it works well and as expected for me as it always has. For grade management, look into the manual for more details.
