Davinci Resolve running terribly and other major issues

PostWed Apr 30, 2025 2:00 am

Hello, i had an issue the other day start a huge downward spiral. i went to go render a project out and davinci crashed restarted it and rendered again, crashed again before it could finish. was like ok no biggy, then the app would not open at all, only a spinning wheel and then nothing. would pop up in task manager for about a second sometimes two then disappear. I spent five days getting that issue solved, but now my performance in davinci is running very very very badly

THIS IS ALL ON THE FREE VERSION OF DAVINCI

Symptoms:
Original: Davinci resolve would not open even after clean installs, no splash screen.

Current: Davinci resolve will have a green glitched screen over the monitor window then playback of footage will stutter and be impossible to edit and eventually crash. I have experienced this with both version 18, 19 and 20. Task manager also shows my GPU is barely being used (0-9% usage)

the stuttering and lag is bad enough I could not even edit a photo.

PC specs:
OS: Windows 10 x64
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800xt
GPU: AMD RX 7800XT QICK
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory
M.2: (2x) WD Black SN850X 2Tb

What have I tried?

yes.

Current list of things tried to fix performance and also get the app to open in the first place.

Current list of things tried:
- System restart, both soft restart and hard restart.
- 15 Clean reinstalls of Davinci. multiple versions (18, 19, 20)
- 1 FULL clean reinstall i.e removing every folder and file with the name "Davinci" or "Blackmagic"
- Used Windows PowerShell to check TCP ports.
- Run Davinci as Administrator.
- Run Windows compatibility checker through all options.
- Updated GPU drivers (AMD adrenalin 25.3.2)
- Ran AMD cleanup utility to remove any AMD software or drivers
- Downloaded older driver version (AMD adrenalin 24.12.1)
- Unplugged GPU.
- Switched GPU out for RX 5500xt, Switched back to 7800xt
- Disconnected all peripherals except keyboard and mouse.
- Installed on a different M.2 SSD (B: Drive) (currently installed and most all of testing done on C: drive, same as windows)
- No VPN is used.
- Disabling windows firewall.
- Installed newer version of Davinci (20.0b2)
- Installing older version of Davinci (19.1.3)
- Installing even older version of Davinci (18.6.4)
- Deleted file repository
- Watched task manager to find any hidden processes.
- Deleted Davinci resolve and all related files.
- Deleted AMD adrenalin software and installed only drivers (25.3.2, 24.12.1)
- Cleared render cache
- Set GPU correctly in davinci settings
- Tried running at different resolutions (all my editing was done in 2560x1440p)
- Turned fusion FX off
- Gave davinci performance priority in GPU settings

There are more things we've tried but this is just all I can remember.

*Benchmarks where done using Userbenchmark*
- GPU benchmark (81.2%)
- CPU benchmark (112.5%)
- RAM bench (104.9%)
- M.2 (382.1%)
- M.2 (318.3)

Try, un installing then reinstalling the GPU driver.
If that doesn't help, see the FAQs for how to generate Resolve Diagnostic logs and place them and the NFO on a shared drive with a link here.

- Cleared render cache

Sorry, I feel your pain :)

Did you try manually deleting the cacheclip folder and all its content? When Resolve works and then suddenly it stops working as you describe, deleting the cache folder usually "resolves" the situation. But I manually remove it rather than doing it via the UI.

Good luck :)

I have reinstalled drivers multiple times with the same and different versions.

1st is LOG
2nd is NFO

Hopefully that works, if it doesn't please share another way I can send them.
